2011 SG with stock tires, 8K on them. When I turn at speeds over 35 or so I hear a hum, sounds like when you blow across a beer bottle top-kind of a "whoooooooooooooo". No noise going straight. Just started about 1K ago, tried neutral, clutch in etc. and it still sings. Tires?Bearings?Brakes? Anyone have the same thing going on? Thx.
I've always thought it was from the contact patch shifting into the unworn section of the tread when leaning into turns, mines always done it too. Its one of those things that can catch your attention or go unnoticed for years.
yep...mine started bout the same mileage & its worse on left turns than right ones. if you look at the rear tire from on the sides you will notice there starting to cup & that is what you hear hitting the ground.
you should be fine till you run it down.
i got almost 13k on it now & no drive ability issues.
i think its from hard acceleration in corners...
Tire cupping... I've always described it as corner roar. I've experienced it on several bikes. Mainly the ones I don't keep up with proper inflation. I seem to start all my new tires with good intentions, but eventually laziness always seems to prevail.
I don't have it on my 06 and didn't have it on the 09 Heritage until I replaced the stock dunlops with metzler me880's. The metz's hum when not going straight. It's very loud when riding next to a parkway solid center divider. And I don't have any cupping.

I agree with that. Tires wear from the middle out, which means eventually u have more tread on the outer edges of the tire, and when going straight on the smoother, (middle section of tire) to heavier treaded outer edges when cornering, u will get that rumble.

I also have a '06 and recently replaced my front tire with a 880 Metzler Marathon and am experiencing the same thing. Had the front bearings checked and they were OK so it must be the tire.

Mine are Marathons too. The noise sucks until you realize its the tires and not bearings or a misaligned belt.
