Just remember when replacing the filter, hand tight only never had one leak and changed thousands only tightening by hand ..
I wish everyone would read this! Almost everyone over tightens, I even take mine off with my hand, and never a leak. ( I've got pretty big hands tho'...)
My first oil change after I bought my bike (08EGC) I had the same problem. The gorilla works at dealers too. When I finally got mine off, the adapter plug came off from the engine but was still on the filter. I could see the red LocTite on the threads. Ended having to put the filter into a bench vise and use a deep well socket to get the adapter off of the filter. Cleaned the adapter, put on some more red LocTite, then hand toghtened the new K&N filter.
I'm just sayin... I double dog dare you to put a filter on that I can't take off with the Rivco (That is-one with the factory pattern...) The K&N is unnessesary if you get this wrench...
Channel locks? The Geico commercial comes to mind... You know, the one where Brian Orakpo spells neand......

Don't knock it...
Hey if it ain't broke...That channel lock trick has been around since they put the filters up front and horizontal.

You're in the Harley Davidson world now ya' know.
Yeah, but please... What separates man from animals is tools, and the sophistication of those tools has many incarnations, as does society... A man has to have the right tools...
There is an older style Harley filter wrench, looks like a claw - it clamps onto the end of the filter, a socket goes over it and as you turn counter-clockwise, its grip gets tighter on the filter - impossible to slip. Although I've never had an issue with the simple end-cap style wrench either.
