I was amazed when I saw this on the news... From what I learned from my "driving school" this past Saturday, 30 MPH+ over the posted speed limit, mandatory court date + fine + points. I wonder if they got to see the judge.
"Orlando Police Chief Paul Rooney Friday suspended the take-home vehicle privileges of nine officers clocked by Local 6 driving at between 90 to 115 mph on toll roads."

Several years ago I was invited by a friend to go riding with him and three of his friends who I hadn't met before. We took a nice ride through several counties when we were pulled of by a deputy sheriff (reserve officer by the badge) who told us we were going 22 miles and hour over the posted speed limit of 50 which was totally bogus.. I was ready to dispute the ticket right there and then but was quietly told by one of the folks on the trip to just take the ticket and not to argue.
The officier said he did us a favor and only wrote the ticker for 12 over. So after handing them out he left. I was livid since the deputy was lying through his teeth and I could prove it since I run a APRS radio on my bike which reports my position and speed to a global database. My riding companions seemed uninterested and one of them said simply; "this will be taken care of.
Five days later I received a letter from the prosecutor's office in the county we got the ticket in dismissing the ticket and apologizing for what had happened and assured us the officer involved was being disciplined, actually he was dismissed from the reserve force. Turns out my riding companions were a superior court judge, a deputy prosecutor, a lawyer and my friend who I knew was a retired state police sgt.
I was told later that the prosecutor called the other prosecutor and told him that everyone was ready to give sworn testimony that the officer had lied on his sworn statement, the ticket and we were all prepared for a full trial on the tickets. It seems that if you have three officers of the court willing to give sworn testimony against a police officer, that holds a lot of weight. So the lesson here seems to be that you need to ride with judges and lawyers.
I got one a few weeks ago for 36 in a 20. After the officer gave it to me he told me there have been accidents on that road, which I think was BS. I said I knew of one close call. That was when one of his fellow officers pulled out of a side street without looking and almost took me out. He stopped just inches away from me.
The way people in houston drive i dont blame the cops i wish there were more of them.......i get passed. Daily by idiots. Doin 110mph in rush hour traffic
So, you have no problem with the police lying? You have no problem with them extorting money from the citizens? You have no problem with there being a double standard for them vs us?
You must have a different "rush hour" than I do... You're lucky to do 110 fpm (vs mph) with some of the traffic I've seen lately... It's not an expressway, it's a 6 lane parking lot...
You can also ask to see the mph you were clocked at on his radar gun. Like Lauren said ticket busters is a cheap fix too.
In Texas, the officer is not required to show you the speed on the radar gun. Besides, even if you do see it, there's nothing to say that the speed logged there is your speed. It could have been taken hours ago. Radar get interference from high voltage lines and I've seen cops set up with their radar right below those lines as they crossed the highway. And there are judges who will not even let you bring the fallibility of the radar units into question. Speed laws have nothing to do with safety and everything to do with bringing money into the city.

I'd rather pay the ticket.
I used to get a lot of speeding tickets. Now I just set the cruise for 8 over. Most WI jurisdictions won't stop for 8 over.
In va. I never pay for a speeding ticket, but I will pay for an inproper equip.
As my speed-o-meter is always broken. The last one I got I went to the dodge
dealer and got me a cable (there were 3 cables, I got the cheapest one) as I
remember it was like $35.00 then took the cable to my mechanic he changed it
and wrote it up as repaired. When I got to court I presented my case to the
judge with the paper trail and he reduced it to inproper equip. I was fined whatever,
they got their pound of flesh and I got away with a clean driving record!
NOW THAT WHAT I CALL A WIN WIN SITUATION. As I do like to support the system.
When I was younger I would take a lawyer, cause you know the judge ONCE used to
be a lawyer. I callled that a WIN, WIN, WIN situation. But I finallly cut out the bottom
feeder UH I mean the middle man. ..............tenn.vol.
Have to watch that in some states, will get you 2 tickets. I am in WI and speeding is a strict liability classification. This means that it does not matter why you were speeding, just that you were speeding. Hence the reason why the cop will ask you why you were speeding, it is an automatic admission of guilt (to him, not the judge). If you tell him you were going fast because your speedo did not work, that will get you a speeder and equipment ticket. Have seen this more than once and lately the judges around here are not letting anyone off.

About time cops are held to the same standards as the people they "serve and protect".
