While no one disputes that the 07 run hotter and leaner. I haven't heard of any failures due to heat. They are designed for higher temps. While the personal comfort from excessive heat is real issue. I'm not buying"they are going to faildue to heat"....at least not yet.
Lean = Clean.
I had a 76 truck that ran @ 185Fmy 98 runs @ 215F and they last longer...go figure? We have 40+ pages on trans noise, a dozen or so on PCIII on07 problems, butvery little (if any?)on heatrelated engine failures...that should be enough to ease you mind.
I just traded my RKC in for a 2007 Ultra. Had read all the bad things about the heat and lean running. Service manager, whom I trust very much, said if I put on my old SE II slip ons and the SE AC, I'd need a race turner (SERT). I was able to talk the dealer into a free SERT and SE AC. Not going to dyno it though, I think the current set up will give me plenty of power, sound better and most importantly, run better!
As has been noted previously - you really should get the tune done.When I had the SERT, SE A/C andRhinehart slip-ons first installedwith canned map (dealer did not have dyno)there was a very noticable flat run upfrom 2500-3000 and a little dip around 4500 rpm. Sure it ran a LOT cooler and definitely sounded better BUT.... While the canned maps get the motors useable,there's no way you can call 'em "tuned", "near tuned" maybe. Did I mention it backfired and popped too?
