Bought my Electraglide 4 months ago. On the way home last week I was slowing down apllying front and back brakes when my front brake locked up 3 times and finally I went down. Say what you will but my Witness was a police officer also on his police Harley. He put in the report that he heard it lock up 3 times then saw me go down. Harley wont pay for my damage. They also said they will not fix it unless they find something wrong. Apparently there is something wrong. I have been riding for 35 years and never had anything like this happen. Anyone got anything to say that may help? Thanks.
OP, ABS can leave a skid mark, but the ABS pulses may show up as a distinctive pattern.
When you panic brake, the shifting of the rider and/or passenger may affect stability. So can letting off the rear brake, once fully applied, ABS or not. The rear wheel returning to full speed spinning has a gyro effect. That gyro effect can ruin stability and send the back end out and high side the riders, if they are unlucky.
Consider the above, and then add the riders' forward inertia. Finally coming almost to a stop, there can be a slingshot effect back onto the seat, even further affecting balance, and the hinged gyro effect of the motorcycle could have done the rest. ABS stops quickly and limits, but does not entirely prevent, skidding. And it doesn't mean that the braking exercise is going to leave you upright, either. Riders beware.
Panic breaking = use both to maximum capacity. Plenty of possibilities, ABS or no ABS.
Glad you're OK. Sounds like you got mostly stopped before biting it.
Glad you are ok. Those deer can be rough! I hope you are ready for a wait for the bike. My buddy did almost the same thing to his road king..Harley has an 8 month wait for painted tins!!!
Why wait? This is the perfect opportunity to get that custom paint you always wanted!
