Keeps my hands on the bars, my eyes on what's ahead, and let's her know to pay attention.

Sorry if that offends some folks....but works for me and her.
Now THAT makes sense. Saves a helmet banging, or possibly worse.

I tend to"Blip" when I think that a distracted ( or just plain stupid ) cager doesn't realize I'm alongside, to let them know I'm there. I've had quite a few "Startled" looks and snappy head turns from them when they hear me, beats the $hit out of being cut off, forced from my lane, or taken out as far as I'm concerned.
Sitting at a light revving, or intentionally trying to startle someone on a bicycle or the sidewalk? No, that makes you look like a dork.
As many have stated in this thread, if you use common sense, and don't try to hit 3500 rpm between shifts, you're not gonna pi$$ off the masses.

Around here, there are more obnoxious "Fast & Furious" wannabes that like to test their rev limiters & can make your ears bleed driving Toyotas & Hyundais that sound like Formula 1 cars than overly loud bikes.

Actually I think that is the part you are missing from the other response. Sliding the back wheel while downshifting is caused by shifting into too low of a gear for the speed you are traveling, it has very little to do with rpms the motor is turning.

I couldn't care less about anyone's throttle blipping habits. Do whatever works for you.

Another minor point on blipping: Your clutch never dis-engages completely, there's always a tiny bit of friction on it when you're holding the lever in-so every time you rev it,you add just a tiny little extra bit of wear on the clutch plates[and heat].The little bits of dust that wear off the discs goes into your primary lube.

Unless you hit the rpm at the exact point, it does nothing.

Imwith you on this one.....but back to the OP, underpass blipping is almost mandatory but rattlng everyones teeth is something else......no one seems to give a **** about anyone else, but you can make a conscious choice to not be that guy.....so hey guys, choose not to be that guy. Im not refering to the guy who keeps blipping his throttle but the guy who does not give a **** about anyone else but himself, that guy... Now whose up for a ride?

Well I went out for 1.5 hour ride today. When nobody was within earshot I tried this "blip thing" over and over again. Did absolutely nothing except use more gas and cause noise pollution. I must've hit the exact point you were talking about Markk several times in my tries but it didn't seem any different to me. My Harley and Goldwing must be "one-offs" because (other than first), they downshift like butter. Does blipping work going into first? I'd be inclined to learn more about how to do it, but for now, I'll continue with my old way.

All these non blipping haters should learn to ride. Blipping the throttle matches engine rpm to wheel rpm as to engage smoothly. HD riders are the only people who swear it does nothing in every form of motor sports...

I would like to say I'm a cranky old person...... thats cooler than hell....and I sometimes blip and sometimes I just rack em. I've been known to play my music too loud, burn some rubber and have pulled the front wheel of the ground a time or two. cause I am old and cranky but cooler than hell

Just not when the heat is watching
