I willingly gave up a fast and loud mustang to buy my Harley because I knew I would use it more. I've been enjoying loud engines all of my life. People have been modifying anything with an engine for almost 100 years now. Just because not every car on the road has a modified exhaust doesn't mean the ones that do are wrong. I enjoy my non stock exhaust and won't apologize for it. I'm conscious of where I am and how I use the throttle. But Harley riders didn't invent loud exhaust and have no reason to take all the blame.
Well I went out for 1.5 hour ride today. When nobody was within earshot I tried this "blip thing" over and over again. Did absolutely nothing except use more gas and cause noise pollution. I must've hit the exact point you were talking about Markk several times in my tries but it didn't seem any different to me. My Harley and Goldwing must be "one-offs" because (other than first), they downshift like butter. Does blipping work going into first? I'd be inclined to learn more about how to do it, but for now, I'll continue with my old way.
The blipping is from a time before transmissions had synchronizes, when double clutching was required to shift gears. Most large trucks with manual transmissions must be double clutched, but a good driver learns to "float" the gears, shifting with out the clutch.
With any modern motorcycle, all that is needed is for the rider to pull in the clutch and shift up or down.
That's a first for me...I really don't understand how if you're not blipping your throttle you're hammering your transmission. I never do that and have had zero problems in 60k miles. Not sure where your heard that one from.
Me too I think you could achieve the same thing by just letting the clutch out a little slower when you down shift. Now I will admit giving it an occasional blip before I take off just to insure it doesn't stall but I've got stock pipes so who cares.
Interesting ... Don't paint us all with the same brush..
Is that not in a way what your trying to accomplish by having everyone look at blip-ping the throttle the way you do or don't. I am sure in a 12 hour day we can follow you around and maybe find something that you do that is annoying. But man what does it matter worry about your self and who cares about what the other guy is doing. We have all done stupid things growing up and maybe still do.
It's kinda of like this forum in a way you can stumble upon this site and look at the forums as a guest all you see is t|ts and A$$ everywhere. Avatars with boob bouncing etc...maybe that is offensive to some of the woman that view this site. But don't cuss on this Harley Forum.. So many people want to dictate how you act what you wear, how you use your throttle on (your) bike. I thought Harley Davidson image is ride free? Be an individual and be accepting of everyone's individuality. So far I have to admit that coming from the softail section and then moving forward and buying a touring bike the word Geezer Glide do fit some. Man what happened to you? When did you grow up and become (that guy)? That you said you never wanted to be.
As a new comer to the touring area man. Some are cool as hell some are soldiers who are cool as hell and some are just old cranky people. We are all different.
Ironically I hope you still have your factory exhaust on your bike.
Old saying when the music is to loud....you're OLD!
No offence to anyone but man lighten up.
I have loud exhaust on my bike and LOVE IT. One thing though I am careful not to make too much noise in my neighborhood, especially leaving to go to work at 6am, don't want to wake up the neighbors newborn.
Now when driving in town, UHM I make sure I am loud in heavy traffic. It has helped me with most of the Cagers too busy texting, I've noticed them look up and see me there.
Now if you want a quiet bike, then so be it. Theres a reason they sell them quiet as hell, in order to please the old guys. LOL No offense just a joke.
One of the guys I ride with does this too. Even under over passes.
Its all being immature.
If I want to get a hotties attention I stop and say "Hello, How U doin?"
