The only thing I'm saying is don't be wound so damn tight over someone having loud pipes.. I could give a **** what anyone thinks about my exhaust or my style of riding.

Interesting ... Don't paint us all with the same brush..
Is that not in a way what your trying to accomplish by having everyone look at blip-ping the throttle the way you do or don't. I am sure in a 12 hour day we can follow you around and maybe find something that you do that is annoying. But man what does it matter worry about your self and who cares about what the other guy is doing. We have all done stupid things growing up and maybe still do.

It's kinda of like this forum in a way you can stumble upon this site and look at the forums as a guest all you see is t|ts and A$$ everywhere. Avatars with boob bouncing etc...maybe that is offensive to some of the woman that view this site. But don't cuss on this Harley Forum.. So many people want to dictate how you act what you wear, how you use your throttle on (your) bike. I thought Harley Davidson image is ride free? Be an individual and be accepting of everyone's individuality. So far I have to admit that coming from the softail section and then moving forward and buying a touring bike the word Geezer Glide do fit some. Man what happened to you? When did you grow up and become (that guy)? That you said you never wanted to be.
As a new comer to the touring area man. Some are cool as hell some are soldiers who are cool as hell and some are just old cranky people. We are all different.
Ironically I hope you still have your factory exhaust on your bike.

Old saying when the music is to loud....you're OLD!

No offence to anyone but man lighten up.

If you've ever downshifted and felt the bike lurch as the engine speeds up to compensate for the new gear -- "blipping" the throttle before letting out the clutch alleviates/lessens the lurching as the clutch pack/transmission and engine get back in sync.

If you've ever done this regularly and become good at it, the bike will hardly lurch at all when downshifting.

Doing this is not required, but it's understood to cause less wear and tear on the expensive metal stuff between your legs.
What you're saying sort of makes sense trip20 but I only notice a "clunk" going into first on the way down. That is why in the last few years when coming to a stop I squeeze down gently and it slips into low smooth as butter. Believe me I've tried doing that blipping thing several times when nobody is within earshot and for the life of me I can't see any difference.
thanks

It's always good to be sensitive/respectful of the rights of others, especially when you are in or close to being in their space. Creeping out of the neighborhood, resisting the urge to blip at the traffic light, turning down the stereo, etc., all good public perception builders. How can we ever expect to have their respect ( and yes, we do need it, especially from the politicians) if we can't (or won't) put ourselves in their position?

But we too have rights and if a guy wants to blip, I say blip away. Doesn't mean we all gotta do it. Doesn't mean it's a bad thing either. It's just a thing. A blip thing. Whatever the reason.

There doesn't ever seem to be a shortage of people trying to get the rest of us to do things their way.

Don't be too harsh on the guy. He probably has a small weewee and can only impress people (in his own mind anyway) with revv'ng his engine. Sophomoric? Yes. But it's likely the only way for him to feel about himself. Better than him burning rubber or doing wheelies in front of a crowd.

You 'blip' an 18 wheeler,WITH THE TRANS IN NEUTRAL-to match rpm's to downshift.[NO sychromesh in the semi} IMPOSSIBLE to do on a MOTORCYCLE,because it is a CONSTANT MESH TRANSMISSION Blip the thing if you want, but don't use smoother shifts as an excuse.

Works for me and less shock on the drivetrain.

No one is saying that the tranny isn't spun up to the speed of the rear wheel.

What is being said is to match the engine RPM to the transmission/rear wheel(of course this is through the clutch) you allow the RPM's to drop when upshifting and you raise the RPM's when downshifting to be smooth.

My Harley is my ONLY bike with FI. Everything else is carbureted. As a result my riding style definitely inlcudes "blipping" the throttle on all down shifts. And at traffic lights.

My BSA definitely won't idle consistently at a stop (cam and headwork is way to radical). And kickstarting it when it is hot...not something you want to do in traffic.

I will continue to be as considerate as possible when I "blip" the throttles on my rides.
