You throw stones, then apologize... Is that how Potato peeps are?
I was stating a fact of my experience to those locations that I traveled too.
I also said "I know there are pretty places in Cal. But wow those places we went to amazing the place looked like that".
Unless you feel guilty to the amount of trash and graffiti and down right nastiness to those places I visited that are tourist locations
As well no in Idaho we do not throw stones. This is an open carry state Thank you.
If someone was to visit our state and notice something not cool or dirty or whatever and mentions it. I see nothing wrong with that. It's true. Along with all the rules you have there. Different then here in the country. Does not mean I am better then any one else. It was my first time in California and that
was what I experienced.
And realistically, how much do motorcycles contribute to air pollution? I'd venture to say just a couple of percent compared to all the millions of cars and commercial trucks on the road. Motorcycles are realatively small engines that typically average 40 plus miles per gallon. We should be thanked and possibly given some sort of an incentive for more people to ride to reduce our useage of fossil fuel, reducing the amount of air pollution being produced, and reducing congestion on the roads. Instead we are harrased for pipes"being too loud". And now ever more stringent arb regulations. Motoercycles are an. Insignificant contributer to air pollution.
While motorcycle numbers are small (total motorcycles and miles driven) compared to automobiles, it is not true motorcycles produce less pollution per mile than automobiles. I really don't understand the notion that motorcycles are special in some way and ought to be given a pass on this but I am happy they are? No smog test on them here. The air is so so bad there is no such thing as Insignificant air pollution imho.
They do help with congestion so are allowed in car pool lanes and in Calif. allowed to lane share/split.
Motorcycles are not singled out for loud pipes (my experience is harleys are actually given a pass) but loud pipes do **** a lot folks off so there are laws...

A bike without a cat, puts out lots of pollution. Your average 5 hp lawn mower, without a cat, puts out more pollution then any car built from about 1996 to present.
As far as noise goes, there is no need for open pipes on a street bike.

The California Air Resources Board fined Tucker Rocky Distributing and Biker's Choice $500,000 for violations of air quality laws because they advertised and sold aftermarket parts for highway motorcycles that replaced original "emissions-critical" components, such as catalytic converters. http://www.sacbee.com/2013/08/05/562...ard-fines.html
Just saying, it is happening.
I just commented on a thread regarding CARB the other day. Like I said then, CARB will begin enforcing the laws, it's only a matter of time. They already have small business owners by the ***** for every diesel 2008 and older.
All bikes 1974 and newer will require some sort of bi-annual smog certificate. No matter if it's a breather hose on older models or Cats on the newer ones.. It will happen in the next 5 years (my estimate).
So for all these guys that take a drill bit or cutting wheel to their stock pipes and remove the Cat's you are now phucked and will need to buy an approved set of pipes for your bike..
Could have saved yourself the grief and just bought a set of "offroad" only pipes and kept your stock setup for the smog station checks.
i remember in the 80's when Whittier's air looked similar to Hong Kong's.
It was bad 30 + years ago. I will say that the smog laws have helped the pollution in the larger cities such as LA.
I live in an extreme rural part of Nor-Cal and while I experience the best of both worlds (weather, location, jobs) it does **** me off when they ***** with me and my bike.
