Just got back from a trip and still trying to digest all the new stuff. I like the style of the new TP. It might be worth a trip to the dealer and look at the new Ultras. I'm sure the TP on those will be the same as the new detach TP. Looks like the lean angle on the new TP makes for better comfort for passenger.

That and my OL was all "I want that back rest!" That's what started me looking into this.

From the 2014 Parts Catalog, the 4-point docking hardware might be slightly different than the 2013 docking hardware - spacing might be wider and/or longer. I'll have to get measurements on the 2014 Ultras to be sure.

In any event, the pre-2014 TP come pre-drilled for the mounting rack and am sure the 2014s come that way as well. Worst case, the pre-drilled holes can be plugged and new holes drilled for the older docking hardware.

Still, gotta see how the new TP "looks" on older rides. They're 5 inches longer and wider. Might fill out the back more from a rear profile.

I think they will look good, but I wonder if opening the tops of the old saddlebags will be as easy. A standard TP on a RKC doesn't work well with the classic bags. Might have the same problem here.

I talked to Gauge (I think. Drives flat black street glide) from Swine Box in Rapid City. This box will not fit a FF helmet. Even though it has more c.i. area, it is not as deep. It's longer and wider. I like the hidden hardware, but to me it doesn't look right with regular hard bags. The bottom line curves down as it goes to the rear of the box. It looks better with matching 2 tone paint as it hides the mismatch in angles. It would look awesome with the stretched and curved hard bags.

I would have dropped the cash on a Swine Box if the shape matched my existing bags, with the bottom going straight back and the back angling down.

I looked at my bags and they stick out further than my TP. Meaning left to right when looking at it from behind. This new TP might even look better. I'm really exited about this new chopped TP. I still haven't seen it, but considering what I know (diminsions and seeing new regular TP), this could be great. Chopped always looks better but I didn't want to lose space and now it has more space. Plus, I can only get some large pizzas flat into my TP. I bet I can get any pizza box I want into the new TP's!

Someone with some photo shop skills should take a crack at mocking something up. The more I look at the pictures in the catalog the more I think it will look fine if not way better.

Finally saw the new TP at the dealer. Looking at it here are the observations I made.

The new version saddlebags open differently, requiring less height from top of saddlebag to bottom of TP.

I don't believe there is enough clearance for the older style latches to be able to open.

I'll be watching this to see if someone can make them work.

If the saddlebags are any indication, i was able to see the new saddlebags lined up on a older bike and of course harley could not make they line up. They are off by one inch, almost two close to drill another set of holes to make it work, almost on purpose. I would love the new chopped tour pack.

Keep in mind for the Tour Pak the only thing that has to fit is the rack and I still believe it will. I still don't think they changed the mounting geometry of the 4 point docking hardware due to the fact that there is no new luggage racks or back rests for the 2014 bikes.
