Default Title rubbing drive belt

I put my 2013 limited in to be serviced at the local dealership.
He called me a few minutes ago to tell me my new Commander rear tire is rubbing the drive belt.
I have not heard any noise in the 1000 miles I have driven since I had the tire installed.
He wants to sell me a new smaller tire but said I have a 200 and he would have to go down to a 160 and doesn't think it will fit on my new Hogpro wheel.
I really like the way the bike look and rides the way I have it now.

How much danger am I in if I just run it?

Dealer said it might rub a hole in the tire but I have not noticed a mark where it has even touched it but the bike is in town and I'm at the farm.
I won't get to look at it until Tuesday .

I have a 180 commander on my 09 UC. No issues.

Stock should be a 180...not 160. May want to look at it yourself to make the final decision as to wether to keep going with it or not. I wouldn't think going to a 200 rear tire would rub the belt.

If it is touching, might want to check the alignment again before giving up on the wide tire. If it's rubbing even slightly, there will be a lot of heat, not good for the tire or belt. I sure wouldn't make any decisions just on what a dealer says on the phone.

Ya, I am certainly with the others here who are in the "trust, but verify" school. I have just seen too many occasions when the crack mechanics at a Harley store didn't have all their fecal matter in one pile. If it turns out that in fact the belt is rubbing on the new tire and there is no way out of it, then you may have to get a smaller tire, but I would certainly check it out first.

convert to chain drive- then you can run a wide tire. ( period)

who put the tire on in the first place? why was it not noticed then? I mean really, wheel off the ground, checking alignment spinning tire, if the tire was rubbing then it should have been noticed. so is it possible the dealer now was adjusting belt tension and put it out of alignment, or did the tire installer put it on out of alignment so it would not rub.

You might be able to put a shim on the pulley to get a little extra clearance. But you will need to verify that there is enough on the front pulley to move it out. Good luck.

thanks for the input

The folks at Hogpro are going to try to sort it out for me.

I had the tires and wheels mounted up at a local independent service shop. it is very possible they could have not noticed if it was just barley touching

I put one size bigger on my bike and the belt has touched, I can tell on the side of the tire, it has been on there for 12k miles and no problems, belt and tire are fine, mine is also a Commander II, just look at it first, if it is touching all the time then I would chage the tire, if just an ocasional touch then I would leave it, if it has gone that many miles so far it is probably fine.
