2008 Ultra Classic questions about intermittent problems
I've heard they have "intermittent" problems. Apparently a problem that shows up during riding that make the bike go into some type of "limp mode"? And I've heard some have had problems starting, maybe related to the other, I don't know.
What is the cause, and what seems to be the solution for these issues? Is it something to worry about even if the bike hasn't had a problem yet?
Yeah it's kinda like playing Russian ruelet.
It's happen 4 times on my 08 UC.
After 4 times being in the shop and 2 dealers, the last dealer found the problem. It was the plug behind the air filter on the throttle body.
It's been good now for about 6 months.
It was loose. Wires looked like they had seen a rough time.
The first dealer I had it at said it was the throttle by wire system in the bars. Replaced it. Still no fix. Then took to another dealer, that is when the found the problem. Got new plug with new wire ends.
Been working good sence.
Well documented problem with Throttle by Wire. Read the follow Service Bulletin by HD. "TT418A: DTCs P2135 and P2101 Theory and
Diagnostics" This was published January 7, 2011. There is also quite a write-up in 09 Ultra Service Manual I believe if you look under codes for TPS failure. Search this forum "Limp Mode".
Permanent fix is new contact pins and dielectric grease in the connection.
