Never had a thing stolen in 57 years of riding. But I lose a couple of things every every season falling off the bike. This year the lighter and the chrome cap to cover the splines when you use just the front shift lever on the bike. $20 each.
But as long as I don't lose my life on the bike all is good.
13 years sportbike roadracing and never had one thing stolen from me at a racetrack. 17 years riding sportbikes on the street and never had an issue with stolen gear/helmets being draped over my seat or mirrors while I was in an establishment eating or whatever. Now I have a Harley and have to worry about it getting fuc*#ed with in a Harley Dealers parking lot. Sportbikers always get a bad rap from the Harley crowd as being hooligans but that stereotype is definitely false. I myself always looked at the majority of Harley riders of a more established, mature and level-headed crowd but i hear more and more stories of theft from Harley events and dealership parking lots..What a shame....People just lack integrity these days whether they are open-heart surgeons or fast food workers
Maybe I trust too many people but I almost never lock anything on my bike.
How many of you have had things stolen off your bike? In all the miles I ride and places I go I never see anybody thatt draws my attention toward a bike that would make me thing they are stealing something off the bike. I was a trained observer for many years and can pretty much still spot a crook
Unless you're watching the bike non-stop, I don't see how that 'trained eye' will see everything. I would say you've just been lucky. Me, I lock it down unless I'm standing/sitting right by it. I will say though, I have never witnessed anyone taking anything off of another bike. I've seen idiots sit on some that clearly wasn't there's. That's a different deal though.

ever since someone stole my beloved 8 track out of my 68 nova back in 77 i lock my stuff even if im going in a store for a few minutes. thieves are good at what they do just as you are good at what you do.
I tour much more than most folks. My bike is often parked overnight in motel lots. I've had a few things stolen over the years (tail light lens, detachable backrest, GPS mount, bungee cords). Once I started putting a cover over my bike, I had no more theft. I had an auto/marine upholstery shop modify the cover so I can attach a padlock on the bottom.
I had my leather stolen years ago from the parking lot of a bar I use to frequent ... Funny thing ... I ran into the THIEF at the Swap Meet in Detroit the following spring ... Needless to say I got my leather back and a few sore knuckles in the process ... :>) :>) :>)

The wife and I travel alot on the bikes we have owned, and yes putting that cover on at the motel helps ALOT !!!
We have always locked the bikes down at motels and eateries on the road, have not had a issue(SO FAR) at more local restaurants or frequented bars, seems most are either afraid of the groups I ride with(we are all kind of large) or they respect the rides.
