Thieves
I'm a relative newcomer to Harleys, as I just bought my first (2014 Ultra Limited) a bit over a month ago. The ONLY thing I miss from my 2012 Goldwing is the ability to lock ALL the bags with the press of a button on my remote (this was standard on the GW, not something I had to pay extra for). I know the CVO's have something similar. I'd consider ponying up for that accessory if it's available.

I lock mine everywhere I go, even if I can see it. And since someone posted that their ignition was turned on and it ran the battery down, I've started locking it too.
I always see people leaving their helmets on their bikes and most don't look locked to it, so as cumbersome as they are, we lug ours around with us.

All depends on where you live I guess.k
Around here people don't bother stealing parts off your bike, that's child's play.
You usually walk out and find you bike gone. In fact, whether you have security or not doesn't matter. I know for a fact a bike with security can be ridden away in less than 3 minutes. All ya need is an ecm in your pocket, a screwdriver for the seat and a special tool for the ignition.

On my last scooter, a traditional looking Pancone engine Wide Glide, I didn't worry a whole lot about locking things down...after all, it wasn't one of the bikes that most anyone would want to steal...too old-school, and horrors, nobody want's something that looks like it came out of 1965!
My current ride is an FLHX, very popular for thieves, and I at least lock the ignition and forks most of the time...as if that will do any good for serious thieves...I tend to relax when scruffy looking biker trash are in the area...I get my guard up when regular looking citizens driving SULEV's and mini-vans are near... then I lock the saddle bags too, and use one of those locking carabineers for the helmets, lock 'em on the mirrors... What I really need to do is lock the bags on with bolts, instead of the stock DZUS fasteners...

And it's not even just about them being stolen; I had a buddy who lost one as he was riding. We watched it fall off and slide into oncoming traffic, where a Chicago PD car ran over it & smashed it to pieces! Felt bad for the guy & I know it cost him some serious $ to replace it, but at least it went out in a spectacular manner!
