I'm a relative newcomer to Harleys, as I just bought my first (2014 Ultra Limited) a bit over a month ago. The ONLY thing I miss from my 2012 Goldwing is the ability to lock ALL the bags with the press of a button on my remote (this was standard on the GW, not something I had to pay extra for). I know the CVO's have something similar. I'd consider ponying up for that accessory if it's available.

My bags are usually locked but I just leave my helmet hanging on the mirror (gloves in it)... Usually dont bother locking the ignition or forks. Sorta just trust the security fob thing to keep the bike from getting stolen.

I lock the saddlebags and tour pak. Ignition I don't unless it will be out of sight for a length of time. 97 Dyna not security fob type, so I lock bars, ignition and put on a disc lock anytime I am away from that bike. Keep the honest honest and the criminal moving on to another mark.

If you have a pre 2014 bike find a way to secure the bags to the bike. Just had my bags stolen. Yes they were locked and contained my jacket, gloves, helmet and who knows what else. I used to to be amongst those who had never had an issue but I know look at thing differently. Retail on the bags is $1500. It takes about 10 seconds to pop them off with the stock setup.

Does your insurance will pay if they find out your stuff was not locked?

sooner or later you'll learn to lock it up, but untill then you can still trust; however, when you come out after lunch, dinner or a night in a hotel and your bags, bike or stuff in your bike is gone, you will say F*** trust and mankind and wish that you took the 30 seconds to lock it up. Ride safe.

i typically leave the saddle bags and tour pak locked. I generally do not lock the ignition lock unless I am overnite somewhere because they cant start it with out the key fob, and i do have the audible alarm on bike as well. I do not lock up my 1/2 helmet cause I figure who really wants to wear someone else's sweaty helmet? I just lay it on the back seat.

Also there was a thread on here awhile back about saddle bags being stolen at various Las Vegas hotels, where the thieves would use needle nose pliers and twist that saddle bag bolt to undo the saddlebag. I noticed on the 2014s they now have chrome covering the top of where the saddlebag bolt connects to the bike. You can't look down and see the bolt twist onto that wire anymore and also no one can use needle nose pliers to undo that bolt. I am assuming that's why the MoCo did that.
