2014 Infotainment issues Part 2.
Problems are:
GPS- Setting a location defaults to Canada. You have to manually set it to U.S.
GPS - Wish the key board was QWERTY instead of alpha-numeric.
If I'm not wearing the head set, I can't use my phone when the bike is on. The phone goes thru the bike even if you are trying to use the phone itself. Usually this happens if I turn on the bike, then receive a call. I would think the bike would sense weather or not the headset is plugged in and act accordingly.
Twice, the system has locked up for unknown reasons. I was using the NAV and playing music from a thumb drive. I continued to hear music and get audio commands from the GPS, but the visual screen was locked and would not take any commands. I got it unlocked by pulling over and turning the bike off. One of the times, that didn't work until I left the bike off for 5 minutes.
Using the headset by vioce command, I did a music search for a song on the thumb drive that was plugged in. It found the song, but I could not get out of that song. I had 2 options: Listen to the song continue to repeat or search for a new song. Disconnecting the thumb drive did not fix it until I left it out over night.

He is in discussion with MoCo who told him the "newer" map update is an error with NaviExtras. Since NaviExtras is set up for many car brands etc., they are claiming their (HD branded) Naviextras site is botched up and that the map being offered is for a car brand such as Audi, not for HD. They are repeating that the next map update will be in August 2014, so please ignore any other map offers.
The website will probably go offline soon for an overhaul.
My bike file will be forwarded to the MoCo where supposedly someone will look into the issue of the swdl.iso update that won't install. I'm not holding my breath. At least we got a solid shrug from them on the maps.

OK, everyone who is surprised by this response from Naviextras, please raise your hand

I'm wondering if LOTS of people started filling out their satisfaction survey and voicing their complaints - might nudge them towards some fixes , even though they "don't" support Harley Davidson .... link below.

1 Firstly, did you get the 1.17 patch installed ?
2 What is AVC ?
3 Is the TA using XM radio?
4 Are the saved addresses on a phone address book ?
Needing to know what items are faults and which are user or compatibility issues.
Thanks.
- Yes I got the 1.17 patch installed without any problem(now i know where to get the right one)
- You know already
- I really don't know, the HDI version has no XM
Anyway TA (traffic announcement)
is a FM RDS signal that activates a predefined volume level on your radio,
or switches from mp3 playback to your radio
(and this disconnects my BT connection)
when traffic information is there.
(just sombody that tells information about traffic) - That is the point, i don't know, there is no information at all.
I tried a translated Garmin Mapsource GPX file
and a translated Samsung (phone) adress file
The garmin file put hundreds "unknown" entries
on the boombox, unnamed, therefore unusable.
The Samsung file did nothing at all.
Both i removed via the DTC screen.
starts with "Authetication" but ends with: " Error: NavSync_ErrorNotValid"
Also i'm looking for a way for to get OpenStreet Maps on the Boombox.
Hope i helped.

I am still unable to confirm what are design issues and what are related to your method of operation. It sounds like the RDS Traffic cutting off BT could be a issue. Can you switch TA off ?
When the TA interrupts, are you already in FM mode just listening via Bluetooth ? Or are you playing from Media ?
"Translated GPX files" - please explain further.
I haven't used any synch features from smartphone to GPS yet but my question was - are you trying to upload addresses from your mobile phone to the GPS ?
Regarding Third Party Applications - you would need software that runs on this OS as mentioned earlier, and that would probably involve overwriting the whole unit software, so I doubt it. Since infotainment systems are rarer than mobile phones, I doubt if there is enough motivation for hackers to mess with it, but please let us know if you discover anything.
I will study the manual further while I'm on the road this week, so I have a clearer understanding of some of your issues, sorry.
