Local dealership is having their annual winter cam install special. They suggest the SE 255 (dealership stated SE 255 is the same as used on 2014 103") for my touring bike for my riding style. 2up and rpms usually below 4K .I asked about the SE 204 and they said that they did not install many of them. I was surprised to here that since many forum members suggest the SE 204. Dealership also suggested the SE 259 for more aggressive riding. My question is about tuning. Dealership does not have a dyno so I would get download to my SEPRT. WILL THIS BE EFFICIENT? Dealship has other location that has dyno but stated most customers do not want their bikes on dyno.
Thanks
I ran the 204 for two seasons and I think it is a great cam, I could have easily gotten the 255 over it but I'm glad I went that route. There must be lots of private tuners in your area that are competent, (key word competent), tuning with your SE device and I wouldn't worry about putting her on a dyno, mine's been on twice now and going in a third time when I put the 107" together. A good download will get you close enough but if you want most recommend the dyno to get that last couple hp and torque out of it.
If you are dependent on the dealer for your install, then I suppose you are trapped into going that route. BUT if you can do it yourself, there are superior options to the HD smog cams, not to mention better tuner modules with a variety of canned maps available for free.
If ya are stuck on SE/HD/dealer and have a 96, 255s are about your only decent choice. I almost never recommend 255s but 96 really doesn't have enough compression for 204s or 259s! I would sure be looking else where towards Andrews 48s and Powervision in a stage 1 96.
I am stuck with HD and with the SE brand of cams. Dealership is having a winter special price.I thought of taking advantage of the $640 installed price. The majority of installs are the SE 255 and just a few SE 204. My bike is 103"

flhtk's are all 103's with acr's. I had 255's in my 12 and run good but not spectacular, good power where most ride. Mike
I may be odd man out on this compared to your dealer, but I like the 204's and runs great in my sgs, huge difference compared to what ever came stock in mine...had a fellow on the this forum modify a map for the sepst that I'm using and had the dyno. Good bottom and pulls hard in the middle. And bonus exhaust note changed for the better!
If ya have a 103 do 204s. If they will put .030 head gaskets in for a reasonable cost do it. High ratio rockers will help some too (not sure enough to justify cost). Head work would be better than either. Proper dyno tune is the best thing ya can do for it. Sorry about being stuck with HD...
