Default Any former Fat Boy owners here?

Sliding over for a visit from the Softail forum. This is planning WAY in advance, as I just bought my Fat Boy in early Feb, and just got it into the garage on Saturday. However when I was shopping for a new bike a month and a half back, I darned near went for a Street Glide. However, as I was moving on from a Gold Wing, and always considered the Fat Boy as my "dream bike", I went with that. I kind of wanted to get back to basics too, after 8 years of riding a 'Wing. However I loved the low lines of the Street Glide, the compromise between full out touring bike (ie. Electra Glide) and a cruiser, and just thought it was a sharp looking machine. However I had back surgery a couple of years ago, and was warned off of it by the dealer, as he claimed a rougher ride than a Softail bike. That kind of made my decision for me. However I'm thinking another few years down the road, I'll be that much further down the road from the surgery, and the Street Glide might be a good replacement for the Fatty. (Which my wife already has her eye on...) I figure by the time I'll be ready to get back to a full fairing/stereo, etc. Just wondering if any former Fat Boy ownerscan give me opinions onriding position, comfort of ride, etc.I'd be interested in hearing any opinions, for or against. Anyone regret giving up their Fatty for the Street Glide? Was a change from the stock seat necessary to make the ride more comfortable, etc. This is the type of info I'm looking for. Thanks in advance...

I know very few people who have gone from a Softail to a Touring bike and regretted it. I work with one guy that bought a new Fat Boy last August. He rode it less than 1000 miles and traded it for a new Street Glide last month. He already has 1k miles on it. I work with another that bought a new Heritage in '05. He has been kicking himself for the past year for not getting a Road King.

I was on a Heritage for 5 years and then went to My RG and i will never go back, the salesman that told you the Softail was Better has been sniffing to much exhaust fumes. I went from riding 200 Miles on my Heritage and my Back Hurting, to Riding 400 and wanting more on my RG

I have a 2004 Fatboy. ThenI got a 2005 Road King and a 2007 Ultra. I ride all of them. No comparison of the Fatboy to the comfort factor of the Touring bikes. The Fatboy, while a lot fun to ride, normally doesn't go on long rides. I went on a 300 mile ride Sunday. I letone of the riders in the groupuse the Fatboy. When we got home he was pretty beat up while I felt like it wasjust time for lunch. Onceone goes to a Touring bike I think most only have a softail as a secondary bike or don't have one at all.

The first bike I got on when I decided to go riding again, after several years of not owning a bike, was a fatboy. I loved it. I could ride 300-400 miles a day and enjoy every bit of it. I owned that bike for almost a year, and put over 15,000 miles on it. Now that I am on an ultra, it seems hard to imagine riding a fatboy. I wish I could have kept it, and have the ultra too. I guess the soft tails would make nice 2nd bikes to a touring bike.

The Dealer or salesman that told you that was sniffing glue, paint, or maybe smoken weed in the back when no one was around.I road an 03 fat boy for a long time and the touring models with the air adjustable shocks ride better than the softail model Harleys.

Take Care,

In my opinion the Touring bikers rides smoother and handle better than the Fatboy. My RK is great. Can't go wrong with a SG, RK, RG or any of the touring bikes.

I had a 2000 Fatboy, a 2003 RKC, and now a 2007 Ultra. Each bike was great. No complaints at all. I wish I could have kept them all. I am very happy with the Ultra. You will, in the end, wind up with an Ultra. Whether or not you keep your Fatboy depends on finances. They're Harleys, how can you go wrong? Just enjoy everyday you can ride and go with your guts.

..went from 02 FLSTF to a 06 SG..very comparable ride. Both are great rides, just have to decide if your ready for batwing and a radio. SG with low windscreen still gives wind in your face ride which I like as I have always ridden windshield free bikes.

I have a 2005 Fatty and a 2000 Ultra. The way I have set up the FB it is pretty much a barhopper. Only ridden if I feel like cruisin and I want to feel 15 years younger. The Ultra is used for work commuting, poker runs, long trips because of it's comfort. Best of both worlds.
