Alone is good for clearing the renewing the soul and clearing the mind. I also enjoy long rides with a couple close buds. Group rides are just too stressful in trying to keep everyone together.
Mostly alone these days. I have a good friend and we would do some great rides. Rode Pittsburgh to Colorado Springs and on down to New Mexico a couple summers ago to see our sons stationed out west in the military. Truly an epic trip. His health has gone down hill and had to sell his bike. Rare occasions I get to ride with my son these days, which is great, but otherwise it's tough to replace a good riding buddy. So I go it alone.
As long as I'm on two wheels I'm happy but if I'm riding with a group I like to keep it small, like 4 guys or so, jammin gears. A good friend of mine and I ride together a lot and I don't have a problem with running 90mph or better side by side with him down I-75.
Mostly solo specially if I want to clear my head cause sometimes that takes more than a tank full. If in a group only with friends, don't really enjoy parade type rides, also don't do bar rides. If we're drinkin' the wife drives and I enjoy the scenery.
90% of my riding is alone, only a couple of people i ride with occasionally that i feel comfortable riding with in close formation. I enjoy sharing the ride, but when riding alone i can keep my own schedule...
For me we would first need to define riding? If we are talking longer rides or something with some challenging roads, I prefer alone or small groups, if we are talking longer rides I prefer alone. It has been my experience that its hard to find others that can ride at your same pace, or distance, the longer the ride the more restroom breaks and longer meal stops. I have a small group that I can ride with and we all do a great job of keeping the others pace, both speed and distance. Every time I have been involved in a large group riding we spend too much time stopping.
