Default Performance issue

Recenrtly pulled into a drive and did not down shift low enough the engine sputtered and jerk until i geared down one more. At that point and after the engine was popping and acted like it was loading up. You can see inside rightside pipe a hot glow and the right side muffler got hot enought to tarnish. There was never a check engine light and the bike will idle fairly smooth.

2011 FLHX 103 only mod is Reinhardt Slip ons

Look for suggestions

Intake or high end exhaust leak on that cylinder (first check). Clogged injection that cylinder (2nd check). Either way cylinder leaned out.

Seems the problem was cause by not down shifting low enough when the jerking motion strated. Had me thinking a timing jump, just not up to speed on that happening with a motorcycle

keep your revs up above 1500 minimum.

if you like to run your motor at lowest possible revs, you will damage the motor.

Hi from the UK and welcome to HDF. If you normally drive auto transmission vehicles, just practice your gear changing a bit more! Change down through the trans while reducing speed, so you are always in the correct gear. Unlike a manual trans in other vehicles we cannot skip across the 'gate' from a high to a lower ratio, we have to go through them all in sequence.

Proactive look at the plugs today, did not look to good. Replaced them and the bike runs much better, sounds like a little back fire out ou the right pipe. Thinkin maybe a fuel mapping issue, nothing was changed when the slip ons were added 3500 miles ago.

You lugged the engine down so low you loaded up with to much fuel, it went out the Exhaust
valves into the Exhaust pipes. If no trouble codes, run it through the gears once or twice
and clear out the carbon in the exhaust system.

well, anybike can certainly benefit from a good tune, even a stock-ish bike. normal school of though runs that if you change the ac or the pipes, no remap is necessary. but if you do both, definitely needed.

with modern efi, and all the detergents in gasoline, plug reading is not really a good gauge anymore. saying that, those plugs certainly do not look like they've been running lean.

you really want to keep the rpms up a little or you're really going to end up doing some major damage. the bottom end on these engines is not near as beefy as they used to be.

Ran a 40 mile check out in town and highway, all appears to be fine and got better as the miles went on. Think the plugs have been an issue for some time just finely caught up. Thanks for all the help and suggestions......ride on
