I had mine done about 1k ago and I'm already getting a knocking on start-up for the first 30-60 seconds or so. Sounds just like the old compensator when it was going bad. Next week I'm riding around Lake Michigan so that will be another 1k and when I get back I'll pull off the primary cover and look at it. This is so much bullshit if mine is also going bad so quick. I had the stealer install it and if I see wear I'll bring it back and see if HD warranties it.
There is a one year warranty. 1000 miles, that has to be a new record. Id like to see a pic if its just in one area like the photos i posted, my other comps all wore evenly all the way around. This was my first that is just warring in one spot.
I'm thinking the only other explanation could be a bad lifter that needs to pump up. It seems like too much of a knock to be a lifter but I'll know more when I return from my trip.
Well just to update I received a "shipped" notification from Kutter HD and my new 2014 "A" comp should be here in 2 days. So it looks like I will have it installed before I take off for Laconia NH bike week after all.
i wonder WHY folks have had issues. Kills me when people say primary oil is the problem as i have come to believe this is not the problem and a defective part IS the problem. If 1000,s of people had broken connecting rods would the problem be crank oil. No. id say it would be forging or metal defects most likely. Weres the recall on this part????
Hopefully the Hayden tensioner will solve the problem.
My personal opinion is the stock harley primary chain ratcheting tensioner is the primary cause of ALL the problems happening under that cover.
Failure to address that part on the Rushmore bikes is the main reason I passed on a 2014.
Hopefully this will be taken care of on the 2015's. I don't think I can restrain myself much longer.
The good news is my start up knock was NOT the new 2014 Comp.
The bad news is it was my lifters. Finally figured it out after an oil change to get ready for my trip around Lake Michigan. Changed the oil, started the bike, same knocking noise. Went for a short ride and one of my lifters would not pump up. Finally a noise I recognized! Unfortunately the local dealers only have HD lifters and not S&S that I would have preferred installing. So I bought new ones and put them in today. Nice quiet start up. No knocking. I may begin to like my bike again.
So bottom line, my new 2014 comp is not going bad.
A final note for those who did not follow the entire thread.....the OP did have a 2014 comp go bad so in my mind the jury is out on them.

I've been following this thread and others, Holding out as long as possible hoping for a suitable alternative to the SE Comp, Was gonna do it myself. But I noticed an oil drip from the left side,It's coming from the rear shifter linkage between the inner primary and tranny, So I called HD ESP people knowing I only have a few days left 06/03 it expires, they said as long as I get it into a shop and start a ticket I'm covered even if I have to wait for parts and my turn on the lift (Good Indy, Very busy, got a few jobs ahead of me) I didn't want to get into pulling the inner and deal with seals. So it looks like I'm going to have to get the 14 SE replacement after all. When I get it back I can put in the Compensaver and the Hayden Tensioner asap, That should last a while ( I hope). Actually I figure I got lucky with the stock 2010 version lasting 19k miles. But I would cringe every start...WHACK! Hopefully I havn't tore up the starter or shaft. And glad I actually get something out of my ESP.
I just picked up a 2010 eG Classic with only 500 miles on the odometer. Guess what, every start I get the WHACK! I cringe. The previous owner said it did it from day one and the dealer told him it was normal just to ride it. I'm thinking I should get the ESP on this bike. Should I put some miles on this thing like the dealer says?
