You had a Compensaver and still lost your comp? How many miles were on your comp before you installed the Compensaver? I was thinking of it but now I'm not too sure.
Friggin HD. I've about had enough of them Compensators.....inner primary bearings...and now I'm reading about wheel bearings. Indian may be calling my name in the future.
You mean a Polaris, Indian is gone. "Happy Trails"
Just received a update from Kutter HD the the new comps are on back order until May 30, looks like I'll be running my current set up for the summer as I'll not be back from out trip until the end of July. Fingers crossed I get it before the 13th of June, leaving for Laconia NH on the 14th!
Got the bike back from the local HD dealer yesterday with new SE compensator. Much better! I didn't realize how much slop I had in the driveline. And much quieter. Glad that's done before the warranty ran out.
No he was just showing me that he had to mill his primary cover to fit a comensaver, he didn't lose his. I don't have a compusaver on mine and my 2014 style is crapping out.
OK got it. So you have the pre "A" style. I wonder what the difference is? How many miles do you have on this new style comp? Unfortunately I also had a 1014 compensator installed last November and it was not the "A" style. Now i'm waiting for this POS to crap out on me too.
Looking at your pics I'm starting to think maybe this is a material issue. I wouldn't put it past HD to be using cheap steel. Ideally since those are wear surfaces, they should be different steels and different RC hardness to avoid the galling that seems to be showing up in your pictures.
Another thought is that the finish on those surfaces is crappy. If they are to wear on each other a finer smoother surface finish is in order. The finish on my old 1988 is very smooth. If I have to replace mine again I'll do it myself and polish those surfaces up so they slide better against each other.

I had mine done about 1k ago and I'm already getting a knocking on start-up for the first 30-60 seconds or so. Sounds just like the old compensator when it was going bad. Next week I'm riding around Lake Michigan so that will be another 1k and when I get back I'll pull off the primary cover and look at it. This is so much bullshit if mine is also going bad so quick. I had the stealer install it and if I see wear I'll bring it back and see if HD warranties it.
