My friend had an H4 incandescent bulb replaced with a high power Led light and he claims is much brighter. I found a Creed 80 W H4 replacement for $23 in Amazon. This is much cheaper than buying the whole Harley assembly ($500 for head light or close to that). I figure I have nothing to lose spending $24.
A regular incandescent H4 uses 55W/12 V= 4.5 amps low beam and 60W/12 V= 5 amps approximately ( I am assuming 12 V battery ). I know is a bit higher.
Now the 80W Led is not 80W/12v= 6.6 amps. It actually consumes 1 amp. So it must be 80W equivalent.
I'm VERY anxious to read your report. I have the HD LED headlight and it's a little creepy at night in sharp corners. Straight road it's great.
I would like to get some stray light from the top of the headlight so it would light up the corners a little. I wouldn't mind sacrificing a little intensity down the road. If the led bulb works, I can put my Hella headlight or my stock HD headlight back on.
I saw this somewhere about a week ago and I've been going back and forth on whether I should do it or not. The one I saw was on headwinds.com and is $99. Your's is a little different design, and 1/4 the price.
Headlight optics are a pretty exact science. The reflector is designed for a certain amount of light bulb length and diameter. Also the orientation of the filament( vertical, horizontal ) etc. Yeah, you'll probably get more light, but it will be scattered all over the place. Try it in fog or light rain and let me know how it works out.
Update: I checked my Amazon order and they are in back order so I got to wait like three more weeks. I got a headlight lens form my previous ultra and I am going to put the LED bulb in there , apply 12 Volts and then put side by side with my 2012 limited incandescent headlight to compare. Of course only one will be on at a time. I will take pics and post. Hang in there. Good things are worth waiting for.
I understand that the optics may not help my Led bulb too much but hell if it is much better than the incandescent one then it is a good deal for $24. I love to experiment. BTW that is what I do for a living.

run a 18 inch pigtail from the Ultra's cigarette lighter plug to the LED ; then you can have both powered on at the same time
