I have stock hard bags on my softail. I just bought a vance and hines pro pipe from ebay,.. just the muffler because mine is cosmetically unacceptable. But I bought one for a touring bike which is suppose to connect to the bottom of the hard bag..
My question is this: on a stock touring harley is there some sort of heat isolation gasket that is used between the bag and the muffler? Im worried it will melt my bag if I just bolt it to the pipe.
If so should I just go to the dealer and get one or anyone have any idea what I could use?
our exhaust hangers are isolated from the saddlebag support with a rubber.
our exhaust has to be able to move with the drivetrain within the frame.
with your solid mount motor, you should be able to mount in a variety of ways from a simple P clamp with a hanger from your fender strut or the "arm" which mounts at the tranny and extends rearward inboard of the muffler to support it with a bolt or clamp
Muffler does not connect to the bag. It attaches to the saddlebag support bar - the bracket has a rubber isolator to allow movement/vibration as well as move fore an aft an inch or so.

The problem is that I have to orient the muffler so the mount on the muffler is pointed vertical because there is a weld seam that would be visible actoss the entire length of the muffler.. so it looks like I will need to mount on the bag or perhaps the tube holding the bag on the bottom.. this will take some thinking. The stock mount location towards the tranny is a long reach compared to the proper muffler.. its a good 12" further towards the back of the bike..
I may just pickup some rubber isolators and do some welding and make a bracket of some sort.. was hoping this might be easier but that weld was unexpected.. didnt see it on the auction photos.
I did speak to V&H about it they said it would work fine if I could figure a way to mount it.
