Default Chubby 502 (12.5 apes)

My buddy who is a wrench at the local HD stealer just left my house. He had this awesome tool he got from the stealer. I don't know if it's available to "us". It's a kit that has a super long throttle, idle and a clutch cable. You mount your bars, and put on your switch housing and put the cables in the correct holes. The cables have numbers on one side and the other side is the diamond back cable.Route the cable and once the cable reaches it's destination, you read the number. This gives you the total length your braided line should be. Then look up the stock length in the P&A catalog andyouget an accurate+numbers over stock for your cables. Well the reason this is such a big deal is because I called Wild 1 and they told me +4 on my clutch will work. Well there is a post in here where a guy with the same bike and same bars as I'm doing did +6 and his cable broke and he went with a +8. Well me and my buddy measured +8. Saved me money big time!!!!

Cool tool. I had a indy shop order my parts for me and is going to install them for me, as I am not comfortable doing this and getting lost half way through. I am putting on 18" bars and I believe the guy said he was ordering +8 for my bars. I could be wrong. Seems though, that if 18" require +8, than 13.5" would require +4. I am calling the guy tomorrow and will get back to you if I can find this post again... Good decision on apes. man they look sweet on a rk. Just curious, how tall are you? I am 6'1" and going 18" cause not everyone has them, and figure at 350 lbs, I would be able to handle them. the stock beach bars are nice, just not what I want the look to be.

I've just put the 12.5" Chubby apes on my RKC. You will need +6" cables and wires....that makes it just right. I used the one piece clamp from Harley Davidson, it was the cheapest one they did. I had to slightly modify the clamp though.
If you are about my height, 5' 11"...these bars will put you in a perfect riding position. I love them.
Brian.
I put 10" Chubbys on my RKC and used 4"+ on the throttle, idle and brake, 3"+ on the clutch, and soldered in 7" into the wiring. You should be able to use the same. You can calculate about what you will need by adding the increased rise and pullback to the stock. Don't forget to stagger your solders.
Hey Confortably Numb, I had the Wild1 518s and they told me that everything should work but they were wrong. May have to do with the previous owner didn't extend the right-hand control wiring. (Left side already had an extra 7 inches). I added 7 inches but it doesn't matter how much you add as long as they are long enough. Too much is ok. I originally went with the 8" apes but at 5'7" they were to far away from me. If it didn't require changing all the cables I would have gone with the 12" apes.
Mine are the the Wild-1 chubbys 12.5" I used +6" Idel & Throttle cables, +6" Brake line, and for the first year I was running the Apes I had +6" Clutch cable. The Cable was alittle to short for sharp turns and it ended up geting streched out and fraing real bad and one day it wouldn't disingage. So I ended up going with a +8" cable and and all is good now. Like anubisss said longer cables will work alot better then the shorter ones.

This thread is what made me wait and measure.....We all have the same bikes, but got different lengths. For internal wiring I need to add 12 inches. I highly suggest one take the extra time and measure.

Talk to the Indy today, and I was wrong. He ordered +10 cables. Said he uses +8 on 16" apes and they work great, so +10 should be good for mine. Now I have to wait 'til next Tues to take the bike in. Says he is swamped and wont get to it by the weekend, and there is no way I can NOT ride this weekend. Starting to wish I had just tried to do the bars myself. Oh well, waited 3 weeks already, another wont kill me. Sad thing is I have spending money like it is going to go bad, I gotta slow down... or actually start working more.

Yeah that post was from me.
For 502 12.5" Chubby Apes +6" on Throttle & idle and Brake, +8" on Clutch. +8" Clutch on 16" would be way to short for left hand turns.
