Default It's back!

Noise came back on a 200 mile ride today. It would stop on occasion, but only for a mile or so and start right back up. Stopped at a friends house and he used to be service manager for a Harley Dealer. He didn't ride it, but he said that a lot of the Ultra Classics and Tri Glides had support pieces break loose around the radio, I guess inside the Fairing. Hubby says it sounds like a valve issue. So guess I will be taking it in. I still don't feel like any of that, because all I have to do is put the front brake on or the clutch to slow down and it stops. Looks like if it was any of that, it would continue to rattle if the bike is still moving. But it stops completely, let off the front brake and it's back again. One time it stopped, but when I went around a curve, it started again. Baffling.

What is that metal plate right in front of engine that attaches onto the left frame , but not the right. There is a bolt missing on the metal plate on the right side that goes to the front of the engine? I think, as I am writing from memory here.

If I understand you correctly I beleive you are talking about your motor mount.

I'll let you know when my husband gets home. I don't see the same thing on his bike. It is on the front cylinder and attached to the bike frame on the left side only. 4 bolts total, now only 3.

It all depends on what year his bike is. They changed the location of the upper motor mount.

Yup, it is the motor mount. The bolt on the right lower section is completely gone. I hope that was my noise.

Default Update

OK, here is my theory. When I left Maggie Valley, the bolt in the engine mount was loose. When I hit the bumpy highway close to home, it finally came out. So when I rode it the few times around home, on smooth roads, I heard no rattle. Went on ride last Sunday and took a road with lots of frost heaves. Rattle came back. I think that was the bracket jiggling against the cylinder. New bolt in, took it out this morning, and smooth as silk. No noise. End of story, for now anyway!
