Default Engine issue?

My 2016 streetglide (47k miles) started making a new noise on trip home from sturgis. When starting it has what sounds like a lifter noise for a few seconds. Also when you decelerate quickly it sounds like an engine rattle. I plan to start investing tomorrow but looking for ideas on where to begin.

What is your oil level like? And how many miles are there on the oil?

The oil may be breaking down a little. Once you get home change it and see if the issue goes away.

I plan to change it tomorrow but when I talked to mobile rep at sturgis he felt 5000 miles or even 8000 miles would not be an issue.

I had the same sounds after a recent 11 day 4600-mile trip. Changed oil, air filter, and plugs, and the sounds are "much" better..

Well...

Unless they have been changed out, you DO have the #18538-99C lifters... The OEM HD "C" lifters, as they are called, are generally considered sub standard (to be put kindly).....

Many people have had issues at less than 47K miles.... some have gone 100K miles with no issues

Most people (including me) will replace the OEM HD lifters anytime they go into the cam chest for anything.... tensioner repair, cam upgrade, etc... But they won't go into the cam chest, just to replace them...That is, barring a possible lifter issue....

You may be hearing the start of a lifter issue... Your lifters could be worn and they aren't pumping up and maintaining pressure like they used....

Not a huge job to replace the lifters, but can be time consuming depending on how you choose to do it... If you can't do the work yourself, the labor costs could be a few bucks....

So I did a little investigating today. The sound is coming from the primary area I think but sounds just like lifter. I also have a slight clunk on shut down coming from primary area. Bad compensator?

I have a 2017 CVO Limited that has been making the same noise and started about 15k, have 38k now. When starting sounds like an old chevy with low oil and will only last a few sec... I have had it looked at by dealer but like everything else, they say that's normal. I say BS on that.

I changed out all the oils to amsoil and it is quieter. The noise is still there at times but not nearly as loud.
