Default best way to control ipod?

Hey, I just picked up a 2010 limited. I got the dealer to throw in a set of boom audio speakers, so I will need a way to fill those speakers with sound from my ipod. I'm looking to be able to control ipod through either the radio itself or the handle bar controls. I want the ipod and wires out of sight hidden somewhere. I figured this would be the place to ask.

Here's three choices:
1) Replace your stock radio with an aftermarket radio that supports Ipods, which will be almost any that you can find today. With that you'll need either an radio interface kit like the ones Biketronics and hawg wired sell, there are other brands as well.

2) is to keep your radio and install the Harley Boom!™ Audio iPodŽ interface
http://www.harley-davidson.com/store...ipod-interface

3) install the Iron Cross HDPDPLUS2 iPOD INTERFACE
http://www.ironcrossaudio.com/ipod-h...dsonradio.html

If your not looking to upgrade your audio system at all ie amps and bigger speakers then I would go with the Iron cross interface, IMHO.

Yep HD's got you covered! I'm surprised Harley "threw in a set of BOOM speakers" Difficult to get the dealer to throw in anything. . .lol

If you don't mind the expense and trouble, the Sony DSX radio has what they call a tune tray. The radio face folds down, and the tray pulls out. It has an iPod connector inside. Connect the iPod, and close it up. The iPod remains inside out of sight, and charges when the ignition is on. I used to use it all the time on my iPhone 4, but the connector changed on the iPhone 5. For all I know the current radio models might have changed too.

almost any of the aftermarket head units with a front or rear USB port will allow you to connect to a smart phone and have it charge at the same time. My rear cable on the back of my Sony reached all the way to the back of my seat after i wired it under the fuel tank. From there I can run the iphone cable to either the tour pack or a saddlebag. so the phone is out of the way.

I just went and looked at the iron cross set up. I think I will take the advice and go with that one. Does anyone have that set up? Known for decent quality and quality of sound? Will the 3.5 ft cable reach the lower fairing? I was surprised they threw them in too. Maybe because it was the last week of January and they needed another bike sold. They said there wasn't much room to move on price, but I had asked about speakers that another bike in their inventory had. They said there was a special fund they could dip into to get me those speakers. Very happy with the whole team at that dealer as a whole. The other local dealer wouldn't even give my dad the kickstand puck when he bought his new limited.

When I still had my stock HK I used an Iron cross interface and it worked perfect, and the cable they provided reached all the way back to my saddlebag so you should have no issue getting it into your lower fairings. The Harley one is more expensive and I believe if you want it to reach your saddlebag you need to buy an extension cable? The iron cross audio sells a quick detach if you want to drill a hole in the side of you bag to run the wire into but I just put mine in and closed the lid on it. Saddle bag never leaked!
