intercom/headset problem
installed as standard options. I don't want to have the CB installed
only to discover the same problems.
We have J & M helmet speaker system, awesome thanks, and use it
for limited communications, through the terrible VOX intercom, that can
never set at the right level. It's either too, or not sensitive enough. I
have been trying to get the right level for 80,000 miles and 2 bikes!
While listing to music, the vox is suppose to get the message that
we are trying to talk. The problem, it frequently transmits half messages
then switches back to music. The typical conversation:
She: "the cows"
me: What?
She: "at the cows!"
Me: "Sorry I didn't get all that"
She: (loud) "Look at all the G.D. cows!"
me: "Where?"
She: "en we get home"
me: "What?"
She (screaming) "lets just talk when we get home!"
So at present, my solution is to turn the vox sensitivity all the way
up, so the music does not play at all and we can talk until the cows
come home. Option two, is to turn the vox off, listen to the music,
and yell at each other when we have something to say.
Does J & M have anything to fix this problem?

I have the mic built in to the chin guards.
Had the Boom Mics but changed to the built ins because it worked better
Covered the mics with dense fan to keep wind off them.
Helmets are Shoi and Arai 1100 an SignaQ
Exhaust is pretty quiet - V & H Monster Rounds.

Harley’s infotainment system is very good for independently listening to music. It is also very good as a stand alone communication system; but combined music and communication through the VOX system is nothing short of maddening.
While listing to music, the VOX is suppose to get the message that you are initiating a conversation. It frequently transmits half messages then switches back to music too quickly. our typical dialog:
She: "the cows"
me: What?
She: "at the cows!"
Me: "Sorry I didn't get all that"
She: (loud) "Look at all the G.D. cows!"
me: "Where?"
She: "en we get home"
me: "What?"
She (screaming) "lets just talk when we get home!"
I started riding and used Sena system tinny music and same lag problem. Then I stopped by the J & M booth Sturgis 75th anniversary and was blown away with the older J & M 787 system. Great sound and used it for about 50,000 miles, so I know all about the VOX adjustments OK. What I discovered with the 801's is:
1. The 801 completely ignores the engine noise. Full acceleration VOX set at +3 bars.
The FLHTK has DNT Headers, V & H Monster Rounds on the 107 Milwaukee 8.
2. You can move the Vox sensitivity to +3 under 65 mph and +2 for 65 mph driving.
3. Since the VOX setting is higher or more sensitive, you do no need to shout to
activate and the communication mode stays engaged slightly longer so you no
longer need to speak in a run on sentence.
4. Wind noise was still an issue for the rear rider. More wind back there. The solution I
found was a helmet wind skirt for the passenger.

I thank J & M for a superior product built by people in Arizona who obviously care about what they sell.
