Default Flashing HK radio

I have the new HK radio in my '01 glide. I asked the dealer if I had to take it out and bring it to them so they could use a 2006/newer bike to do the flash to activate the rear speaker fader, etc.. They said they had no idea what I was talking about. Who's confused, me or them?
Also, if it's true that it needs to be in the newer chassis to be flashed, is there any way to mimic whatever they're hooking up to in the newer bike on my old bike? (like adding an interface connector jack or something?) If so it would save pulling the radio/outer fairing any time an upgrade or flash is required.
And do the XM, CB, IPOD modules need to be installed at the time they're enabled in the radio or can I get it flashed now and add them as I can afford to? Hence the prior question.
I truly appreciate any help.

Stephen D; IF you want the fader to work then it will need to be flashed by the dealer. However with that said, you do NOT have to have it flashed just to get sound from rear speakers. You simply need to wire 4 pins on the 35 pin connector. Pins 1,2,24,25. This will provide sound but not fading abilities.

There are 100 different responses to your exact question though and not one is the same. My suggestion is to call Tony @ Iron Cross Audio and he will tell you exactly what needs to be done. Super nice guy and very helpful.

The radio will need to be in an 06 bike to have the fader / intercom flashed. We can do it on the bench. Like Nuts said, the rear speakers are always active.

XM,CB,iPod are auto detect through the radios CAN data bus, so no additional flashing is required.

Nutz,

When I installed a PBR300x4 on my Ultra Limited, I used ping 1,2,24,25 for the rear speakers. I lost the ability to fade from front to rear. If I fade to the rear I get no sound, if the fader is set to the middle of the bar or to the front it seems to play equally from all four speakers. I connected everything using the 4 channel inputs. Did I miss something or is the fade ability lost with going through the Fosgate amp? Thanks...

no sir fade is not lost and your wiring should look like this.

Radio 35 pin connector
1- Green to violet on amp rear input harness (RR+)
24 - Light Green/Brown to violet/black on amp rear input harness (RR-)
2 - Brown to green on amp rear input harness (LR+)
25 - White/Brown to green/black on amp rear input harness (LR-)

Radio 25 pin connector
1 - light green/black to grey/black on amp front input harness (RF-)
18 - grey/red to grey on amp front input harness (RF+)
17 - light green/white to white/black on amp front input harness (LF-)
16 - white/orange to white on amp front input harness (LF+)

and then match these exact same HD colors for the output harnesses for front and rear

Be sure you set the amp to 4 channel

Thanks Todd and Tony,

It ended up being the amp not set for 4 channels. After spending 9 hours in my garage on Saturday installing the amp, 4 speakers and several chrome items, I just overlooked that setting (it got up to 95 degree's before I finished the installation). Again, thanks for pointing me in the right direction!
