I think for the newer bikes, the clutch and primary cover interferance is not an issue. Read it in the Instructions or somewhere, but I had a good look at mine anyway and was not a problem so I did no clearancing.

Also, can someone tell me what that dampner bolt is for? You have to remove it when installing the baker unit (which i did), but just curious if its purpose is to prevent the chain from slapping if it too loose w/ stock tensioner setup?...
Thanks Bobber, I'll make sure of that Mine doesn't have that bolt.

Road covered in snow, garage is as cold as a brass toilet seat in an igloo so I haven't gotten any further, the pause gives me time to wonder about if I want to do anything else with the bike for now.

So here's some New Year's bike **** from warmer days, I can't wait for winter to be over

I've been running the SE comp for about 50k miles now... no issues... none.

Here's an update as I tread water on other work, a little filler in between as it were:

Picked up my HD 30 tooth pulley today and prepping to swap it out. The thread about the "any regrets about the 30 tooth" convinced me to swap it out so, what the hell, when in doubt...do something.

I'd always thought I'd get this part from Andrews but the Moco part is much cheaper so got it there.

Picked up the socket (2 1/4") off eBay, there is a little round nut that screws over the tranny shaft that helps keep the socket centered since there is only a little less than 1/4" to grab on the nut. I include these pics of the socket for those that haven't seen one to grasp how large they are.

Half the fun of owning a HD and doing your own work on it is throwing your money away on tools, I snagged this off eBay. Now I can brag that I own a "Jims" tool.

I have a Jims tool.

I'll try an impact wrench to get the nut off and will update as that happens.

Cheers!

Awesome, you will love the lower gearing! What impact wrench, hopefully it is strong enough. Elite stuff from Jims, I got none...

Well, I don't own an impact wrench at the moment and may pick one up soon but stopped off at the renter center joint in town and talked to the owner and he said that they don't rent them any longer cause theirs got messed up but that he would do it for me cause I told him I only had one nut to do, so, it's a small town so, you know, that's cool, small town stuff. (How's that for one long sentence!)

So, being the master of leverage I thought I would test my luck with my cheapo HB 1/2" breaker bar, employing my McGruberness at the same time......which led to...

Yes, I used an older BMW exhaust has a cheater bar but I fought the law and the law won The cheater bar worked great, HB did not. That is no doubt, one tough nut to crack but crack it will

So I'll head to get the impact wrench tomorrow and see if it works.

If anyone has any recommendations for a moderately/reasonably priced impact wrench please chime in.
