Default FXDLI fuel tank overflow??

I replaced the gas tank on my son's '04 FXDLI last year along with the fuel line coupling fittings and new tank internal fuel line. Not long afterwards, he told me that it will **** gas somewhere around the fuel line coupled fitting when he overfills and keeps leaking until he stands the bike upright off of the jiffy stand. Gas tank cap off or on makes no difference.

I have seen it do this and it is not a "drip leak," it is a pretty significant leak. At first I was thinking that the fuel line fitting was leaking but that was not the case. Anyway, it seems to me that a leak there would leak no matter how much gas is in the tank. We emptied and pulled the tank today and looked over everything again and could not find any problems anywhere. I checked the vent line that runs from the tank check-valve along the frame and down the post below the seat to see if it was loose or broken and the fuel was dumping there but the line is good. Everything I checked was as it should be.

I am a believer in Murphy's Laws and I know that if I have not found a problem and fixed it, then it is still broken and will do it again. Only problem is that I cannot find anything wrong.

Anybody experienced this before and can direct me to a likely cause?

My 98 low rider leaks the opposite way, fill up on the jiffy stand and park upright and it leaks until the fuel gets below the vent hole near the filler cap. I think it vents to the frame or somewhere near the bottom of the bike, I have never really checked it out. I just do not fill it completely full anymore. Just a built in glitch I reckon.
