It's the little things. Researching and purchasing makes me feel like I'm doing ~something~. The weather is breaking and I'm getting stronger. Won't be much longer ...
Mocked up a shift linkage in CAD and ordered all the components. $50 shipped. All aluminum and fairly light. .18 lbs, supposedly.
Got the shift linkage parts in and assembled. 96 grams (3.4 oz) vs 282 grams (10 oz). Almost 1/2 pound savings. I thought the old linkage was aluminum, but it's slightly magnetic. Must be stainless.
The heims are nice and tight. Great for most applications, but I'll have to get 5/16 shoulder bolts to keep the shifter rotating freely. The nuts were supposed to be 3/8 hex but they're actually 1/2. Not a show stopper, but I try to may hunt down some of the 3/8.
The assembly adjusts from 13" to 14.5" center to center.
I may paint or polish the heims. Haven't decided yet.

cggorman, you still have two of those extra nuts you ordered?
Yessir! I ordered 6 pair. I used one pair on the shift linkage and will use two more pair on the brake linkage. One pair is set aside for Reindeer. That leaves 2 unspoken-for.

I don't remember you mentioning that those also were involved with your medical procedures and "new parts"
Oh, yeah! I had them swap out lots of useless old junk while they were in there. Got plenty of spares now. Had to order a bunch and hand select the good ones.
I knew the comment was coming for that, I sat here trying to figure out how to word it, but finally said F' it.
Yeah. I saw it coming around the block. Tried to word my post as...carefully...as possible.
My job involves working with lots of hoses, adapters, fittings, etc. All day long it's Nipples this, Male or Female that, O-rings blowing out, big and little Nuts, Screw this and that, long black hose (or hoes)...most involve sealing in gases and fluids so we have packing, dribbles, leaks, burps, loose, tight....it's a 10 year old boy's comedy dream!
