Default Help! UnPinning Connector

There seems to be an unlimited supply of different style connectors on this bike. All of which I have figured out except this one. And I don't know what type it's called in order to google how to unpin it.

Can someone please give me some guidance??
It's the connector that plugs into the top of the fuel tank top plate assembly.

I assumed this was in reference to the 2011 FXDC in your signature. These are the part numbers for the plugs related to the fuel pump, according to Ronnie's parts finder. The link in the bottom will take you to an image and description. Its a Delphi type - male connector.

72263-95 HOUSING, 4-WAY SOCKET (BLACK)
72033-93 TERMINAL, SOCKET, #16-20 AWG

I haven't depinned one before, so I can't help you there.

that is a Delphi weatherpack connector. It takes a special tool or small tubing to fit around the pins

Thanks to all of you for the info. A special tool would make since. My dentist tools, screw drivers, pocket knife, and paperclip have all rendered useless on this deal. I'm not sure if you can see in the middle picture, but there is a long tab on the left side of each terminal that also sicks out of the plug a bit and catches on the housing. I'm not sure if that's part of how the terminal is retained in the housing and I can't see how that weatherpack tool or a small diameter tube will slip over the end. The terminal is basically the shape of a "P" and the lower part of the P is beyond the edge of the housing, so I don't think a tool will fit around the whole terminal. If you zoom in on the third picture, I think you can see what I'm talking about.

Pretty much any modern connector is designed to be repairable. Most require a specific tool, some you can get away with a pick etc.

Looks like this this is one option for those connectors:

Well, like an idiot, I let the fact that I live in a small, rural town get the best of me. Instead of waiting for a tool to be shipped to me, I thought I'd give it one more go with my dentistry tools. I tried depressing the tabs one by one (the metal is fairly flimsy and it seemed as if once depressed they didn't pop back into shape). I thought it was working and pulled them out one by one with a little negotiation. I found out; however, when trying to put them back in that I had marred up the plug in the process. As well as bending the terminals too far so that they did not fit back into the plug correctly.

I wound up filing away at the plug until the terminals would slide back in, all the way through and out the other side, wherein I tried bending the terminals back into shape and pulling them back into the plug. Trouble is, now there is no retention and the wires want to push out of the plug when I connect the plug to the tank top plate female end. I have the rubber grommet shoved back into the plug and the terminals bent so far back that it seems to be holding and the bike does run and rev. Just wondering how long before they vibrate out or something...

Long story short, I should have waited for the tool as has been recommended to me. If it doesn't hold as it, I'll probably by trailering to my Indy to have them put on a new plug since I am not cut out for this type of work.

Once connected they usually stay put. And yes the last thing you would want to do is cut the wires....

It's not much more than a $10 mistake. Just order a new plug, new pins, and rebuild the connector. You'll never have to worry about it if you fix it the right way.
