Difficult to follow a single long sentence so lets see if this helps.
You report having: 2013 FLD DYNA SWITCHBACK that you have owned since new.
Last fall on a ride you stopped for a break and it never started again. What does that statement mean to you?... No crank? or does motor crank but not turn ON?
Dealer told you that right hand canbus control module was crimped and needed to be replaced....Do you have a part number of the item needed?
You report that listed part is reported as obsolete and you have been searching for the last 5 months...Is bike still at dealer?
Possible solution:
If dealer diagnostic report is correct then perhaps working with a dealer to conduct a national search would help.
Alternatively contacting corporate to see if another dealer someplace in the USA has the part on the shelf will provide a solution.
Diagnostics are difficult from a distance but i wonder if reported wire can be repaired.
Have you checked E Bay?
Unfortunately I am going to assume scam. No one is leaving a bike at the dealership for 5 months with a diagnosed issue. Parts are not that hard to find, it is not a Brough Superior.
For anyone looking for handlebar control module.
Quick explanation of issues. Have 2014 Heritage Classic and right side switches quit working.
Ordered Harley part 72948-12 for 2012 to 2015 years to replace it. $350 for the part, its on back order..
so instead of waiting I went to the dealer and bought 71500297 for years 2016 to 2020 for $200, the dealer had it in stock.
It was a perfect replacement part and works fine. Only difference is the decals on the switches them self.
I will switch the switch buttons and all will be well.
This should be a work around for all the CAN bus type switches.
I left a lot of info out my apologies, I trailered my bike home after a week to work with my local dealer, they found the part listed in two dealerships but they were long gone, the bike has no power as if the battery is gone ,part number 72948-12 dennis kirk , jpcycle revzilla nothing, e bay had a used one but was already gone, two different mechanics have it canot be repaired, i have checked with every cycle salvage that is listed , nothing thanks for replying so quickly gary
