The link to the C-clip and nut that Sniper77 posted doesn't work anymore. I should be able to get the nut and c-clip at the HD dealer, right?

Yes. I paid ~5 dollars for one just a few days ago.

If my buddy put the sundowner on and used a c-clip, the nut should stay in place even after I back the screw out and remove it, correct?

By the way also....after I remove the sundowner, does anyone know where I can get a rubber grommet to put back in the open hole on the fender that is used only for the 2-up mount? OR any other material or trick that will cover the hole?
If you get a thumb screw, get 2 so you can use one for your solo and leave the other in the fender hole. Too much trouble to remove the seat nut with E clip when just swapping seats.
I have a fender bib and use the "crown" style seat bolt I bought from Loner.

Had the same problem going from the stock 2-up on my LR to a le pera solo.
Nut and c-clip about $5 at H-D. Knurded screw about $15. easy install, just
snake small wire thru top of fender hole then out by side of tire. Thread thru nut
then tie knot. Pullup on wire and hold will u slip c-clip in place. Also put a harley fendr bib on to hid some scratches. kinda pricey but looks ok.

Yeppers. It's the same set up that keeps the backend of your solo set attached. Get a manual and read the directions, if not you are headed for trouble.
