Anybody that is telling you to start it up every so often and let it warm up is leading down the wrong road. It isn't good to start an air cooled engine and just let it sit idling and/or blip the throttle. You have to ride it nearly 20 miles to get it up to operating temp to warm up the oil and start burning off the contaminents. If you have to let it sit for 4 months without riding it, go ahead and fog it. You certainly won't hurt it. It only takes a minute to do and costs about a dime......I have an inboard boat that has been fogged and layed up 5-6 months a year for 23 years. It still runs like new. No smoking. No oil burning.

+1 on riding 20 miles or so (allowing engine to reach full operating temperature) to get rid of contaminants. I never fire up my bike in the winter unless I take it out for a good (albeit short) ride.

Its hard enough to go 4 hours without a ride, how can you deal with 4 months???
Sorry I cant offer any advice, I have never had to store my bike for any amount of time.
