Has anyone installed a SE Forkbrace or any other type of forkbrace? It looks pretty simple, but I was wondering if there is anything to take into consideration when installing a forkbrace??
There is a warning in the instructions that says failure to provide adequate clearance between stationary and moving parts can cause loss of control??
actually put one on yesterday. definately made a differance. pretty easy to install. just bolts right on. no problem with stationary and moving parts. dont know where that comes from, maybe just the lawyers talking. it might be easier if you take off your front fender first. this way you can access the screws on the bottom and just tighten everything up at the same time. Dont know why, but the 4 screws on the side that hold the clamp to the fork, were to short. they barely grabbed. i had to pickup some 1/4-20x3/4" ss cap screws. problem solved. let me know if your was the same.
I have an SE brace on my 08 FXDC and it works very well.
I do not recall any warnings about anything in the instructions, which were pretty minimal. not sure what stationary or moving parts it could come in contact with. They do advise you not wrap the front brake line on it, around it or through it. That would definitely cause a few problems.
But, I strongly recommend you place a towel over your fender to protect the paint there while you are putting it on, because you might drop it while making the fitment.
When I put mine on, I got the two internal loops bolted to the spine, then torqued them down on my bench. Put it back in place, then bolted the outer loops to that. I used an old drafting divider to check the spacing from the top of the sliders to make sure it was even on both sides.
Good luck! If you are thinking about one, go for it. The difference in the stability of your bike is amazing.
make sure to think about vibration. I just had to get new screws for mine because even though I put lock-tite on them they vibrated loose and 3 of the bottom ones fell out. (glad I checked b4 i rode that day) Use extra lock-tite and make sure they are secure. Check often as well. I think that I used some no name brand, now I only use the lock-tite brand.
It easy to install but the tips above are great, I went down and checked my bolts good tip the stability of the front forks at speed is apparent. I love mine.
