A buddy of mine has found a deal on some Progressives off an '04 bagger that he wants to use on his '07 FXD...would this combo work?
Progressive always confuses me because they've got so many variants of their 412s and 440s depending on your year/model of bike...but I can't see why a lot of them wouldn't be interchangeable.
I have not done it but there are others on here and on other forums who have used bagger shocks on the dyna with no problem.
Easy change to make and I think they even fit Sporties too.
If running saddlebags may have a slight clearance problem due to the shock being wider.
they work great, soft plush ride... i have lowering air shocks on my dyna right now... they drop me azz dragging low when i want and give me a soft plush ride, like rocking a caddy! best mod i have ever done on it... they only came in chrome so i had to sand them down and color match my black powder... but i love them! the stock shocks will not give you a drop so you dont have to worry about redoing any of the wires under that rear fender
So you took shocks off a touring model and bolted then on a Dyna? That was the question ( I think), and I couldn't tell if you are referring to air shocks designed specifically for a Dyna, or touring model shocks installed on a Dyna?
thx

This makes no sense whatsoever. I emailed Progressive and asked if this model shock (440s for an '04 bagger) would work on a Dyna.......the answer I got was:
"They will bolt up but the spring rate is Half as what is needed for a FXD. the shock will bottom out as soon as you remove it off the jack."
Does that make sense to anyone here? An '04 bagger weighs more than an '07 Dyna...am I missing something, or did the Progressive tech have his facts backwards?
OK, this is interesting...for anyone that's interested.
I emailed them back asking why '04 FLH shocks would bottom out on an '07 FXD and got the following response:
"The leverage ratio on the chassis the angle the shock is mounted. The rate on the FL shock will be at STD 90/130 compared to that on a FXD at 270/300 std. that shock will mount but not have any quality of ride."
