When gas prices shot up in 2005 I was driving my Chevy 1 Ton dually to work every day. Thought to myself, "I should start riding a bicycle to work." Myself thought back to me, "You'll be too sweaty, and there's no place to shower. You should get a scooter." I replied, "A scooter huh? Sometimes I have to go to Salt Lake for hearings. I should probably get a motorcycle."

Myself agreed. Having previously owned a Yamaha that I liked a lot, I thought about a V Star. I reminded myself, however, that grandpa had been a Harley dealer in South Dakota back in 1914 and I should definitely give them a chance. I went to the Yamaha dealer and they wouldn't let me test drive one. Test rode a couple of used Sportsters and a used Yamaha. The difference in the emotional connection was like night and day. I knew I had to have a Harley. The relatively new Sportsters cost nearly as much as a new one. I went to the dealer and he convinced me that if I bought a Sportster I'd be back for a big twin within a year. It was September and they had some great deals on an '05 Super Glide Custom.

At some point along the way, my wife said, "If you want one go ahead and get it." I did. She said much the same thing this summer when I started looking to move to a touring bike. Did that too.

Was tetering between a Nightster and a Super Glide. After reading stuff here, and talking to some folks, including a salesman at a dealer (I know better than to take whatever they spew out as gospel), I figured for the extra few grand I'd be better off going with the Dyna. I didn't have my license, so the salesman told me to come back when I get it and we can talk numbers and test drive it. I do my MSF training, get my certificate and go to the dealership on a day when it drizzled. Salesman tells me they won't allow test rides on wet pavement. We go over numbers. All they have is a demo FXD in pewter. I want black. I tell him its a used bike (70 miles on it) and want it priced OTD as such, and he tells me that hes pricing it as a used bike. All he really did was take off the freight and setup charge from the new bike MSRP. I look at him strange and I tell him I'll be back when the pavement is dry. I go to another dealership a few days later, just to look at their stock. The salesman asks me what I'm looking for. I give him the deal from the other guy (probably shouldn't have, but I also don't tell him that it was for a demo though) and tell him that if he beats the price nicely with an OTD price and throws in some additional stuff, I'd be interested in considering the deal. He tells me that if he goes to the manager hes gonna want to do paperwork today. I think for a second, and figure, why the fk not? They come back with a nice price on a vivid black FXD, which is what I wanted, and I say ok. I coulda gone back and forth with the manager, but I was satisfied with the OTD price. Didn't even try the FXD out until it was delivered to my driveway and never rode something this big. Picked it up on a whim, and don't have a damn regret. Its so easy to handle and I love the thing. Not a bad roll of the dice. I was gonna buy a old cheap 500cc something if I didn't feel comfortable on it until I felt it was time to move up, but I definitely don't have to cause the Dyna feels just right.

Last Christmas, I went to the dealership to get some gift to self. I was talking to the salesman who sold me my 08 Sportster. He told me that HD was coming out with the Sportster trade-in at MSRP promotion. Best gift self ever got.

Two years ago I was with my wife and kids heading to Omaha for the weekend. It was early August and all the Harleys were going by heading to Sturgis. At the time I was making payments on an 04' GL1800. Watching all the Harleys going by I turned and told my wife "I'm going to sell the wing" after doing the Linda Blair head spin she asked why. I told her I have always wanted a Harley and was now going to get one. Her only response was "well get one with a lower monthly payment then" and I did. Shortly after that I sold the wing and picked up my 02 Lowrider at a local consignment bike store. It was 2007 and she only had 10000 miles on her, barely broke in. That is when the real expensive part started ( accessories). Sorry for the long post but hey you asked!!

Always wanted a Harley since I was a kid. Been riding off and on. When a dealer opened up my country, I stopped by with my daughter to see an FXDF. She absolutely confirmed it is me in black denim and nothing else. My next one may be a Duck though due to need for speed.

I was never much a fan of Harley's but after deploying several times and walking past the AAFES Harley military sales stand, I decided to break down and get a souvenir from my deployment. I originally ordered a v-rod in 2005 but eventually cancelled my order. Last year while I afghanistan I decided that the Street Bob was the bike for me....had to change that one two when I came home and sat on a Fat Bob. Fortunately the benefit of AAFES is that you get to switch your order if you change your mind.

ad in the paper, went to his house - almost a mansion, the bike had only 500 miles on it, lots of extra chrome & custom seat. He told me his wife won't let him have two big toys...sell the bike or the boat. My gain.
