Wow....some really good stories out here. As for mine, the world and my wife pushed me into it, well, sort of. I did want a Dyna, but I had a lot of encouragement getting it when I did.

Because of my looks (long hair, goatee, tattoos, sleeveless tees, silver bling, blah blah blah), everyone thought I rode a Harley. But I didn't. The more time went on though, the more people kept asking me when I was gonna get one. Finally, my sister threw down the challenge. She knew that I'd eventually get a bike, and she said she'd disown me if I got anything but a Harley. Then the guys on the rig (I work offshore) told me they'd throw me overboard if I bought anything but a Harley. And then some of the Brasilians on the rig (we're off the coast of Rio de Janeiro) started calling me "Mr. Harley".

One time home, my wife and I stopped by the dealership just to look. I'd qualified for the loan by the time we left. I really wanted a Honda Fury (go ahead guys....flame suit on....but I still think it's one of the best lookin' factory bikes on the road), but couldn't qualify. At my income level I could have saved for it, but when the salesman at the Harley dealership started what would soon be my bike, I was in love.

And then "it" happened. We were at the dealership again, and my wife said "Hey stupid, what are you waiting for? Get the damned thing and get it over with. You know you're gonna do it, I know you're gonna do it, so just get it, will ya"?

We both took the riders safety course (my spousal unit passed with flying colors even though she'd never ridden), and I rode our Dyna home the last day of the course. And now my wife wants her own bike, and she wants an Ultra Classic.

Ain't that sweet?

I guess selling the wife was out of the question.

That's like the snappy comeback to "I got this for my wife ..."

"Excellent trade!"

I owned two sportys before and after riding dads wg i knew i wanted a big twin like that one. Well my old man traded the wg on a 09 electra gide Classic but keep his 99 heritage for around town. So i got a huge itch that needed to be scatched and went to a stealership close to me. sat on a fatboy and the salesman got pushy so i walked away and went home. got on the phone and called every dealership for 350 miles for a deal on a big twin. found a couple but they had alot of miles or wear. So the lady at the dealership said how bout a NEW FXDC. So i asked my gf and she said get it we can afford it and i rode (on my sportster) 250 miles in a downpoor. got there and there she was. vivid black and pewter pearl. We argued about price and i walked out with MSRP and free security, laced wheel option, and a extended warrenty. Then i rode a brand new bike 250 long wet and miserble miles in the rain.

Default Never thought I'd own a Harley

Owned a couple of Hondas when I was younger. Got my first when I was 16 and rode until I got married. When we started having kids, never had time to ride. It's been 20 years and I wanted to get a bike for the past couple of years. Never thought about a Harley, cause I never thought I could afford one. My neighbor a few houses down, is a retired motorcycle cop and has had 4 - 5 Harleys over the past 10 years. One day this past November he asked if I was still thinking about getting a motorcycle and I said "Every day". He said he was trying to get rid of one of his (had 2) and had offered it back to the person who he originally bought it from. They had sold it to him for a good price and he was going to do the same. They wanted it but never had the money. It had been 4 - 5 months and he couldn't wait any longer. He told me what he had and what he had wanted for it. Couple days later, I said " I'll take it". It's a 2000 red super glide with 9000 miles. SE cams and exhaust, spoke wheels, dual discs up front, baby apes, better clutch (not sure what kind, but suppose to be an easier pull), detachable windshield, relocated rear turn signals for saddle bags he never got, and he changed the rake somehow which made the bike about an inch longer. There were some other upgrades, but he hasn't given me the complete list of mods. I took the riders course, bought some leather, and a couple of helmets. I haven't riden it much cause of the cold weather, but I love this bike and I can't wait for Spring.

Talking my story

Its rather a odd one, Ive always been a fan of harley But a die hard "Zukie" rider. I had gone about a good 2 years with no bike while on sea duty... never had time between underways & daily life.

I picked up orders down to Cal. Great weather & just got the bug... But wife was dead set no more sport bikes.
So on a odd day I happen to go driving by the base "lemon lot" (place where military can sell thier own cars & what-not) there is a blue 1200XLC sceaming eagle this & that all for like 8K if I remember... So tell the wife found a harley sportster its the 1200.

Gives me this look, I call up the bank grab the check & its in my garage by the end of the day. ( I had just made E6 so we had the extra breathing room and had been thinking of a 2nd car )

Rode the hell out of the bike making a list of things to change. In the back of my head I had always lusted over night trains & lets face it a sportster is no NT.

I tell the wife I have to have a bigger bike not because of engine or such.. just for leg room Im 6ft2 & 230 so as she said " yes you do look like a bear on a tricycle."

I rode down 2 and 1/2 hours early sunday thinking sales floor would be dead. WRONG! Its packed I have no idea why... no HOG event that day, but I think it might had to do with the nightster or trade in program who knows.

I asked nicely mind if I sit on a few of the bikes "im window shopping"

I think Im asking the sales guy... turns out its the shop manager from the back says "sure". He asks "you the guy with the blue sporty?
He tells me he knows the guy who sold me the bike .... its in great condition & he'll talk to the sales guy make sure I get a good trade in... IF I find anything Im serious about.

Mind you Im standing there with check in pocket.

So I ask ok whats the value..IF I find something.... they come back with all the add on's sceaming eagle & such bike is worth about 12k ( trust me I thought it was rather odd given most the times dealers dont give a damn about the add ons. )

Sale guy tells me if I need anything just give a shout. Hes trying to finish up a sale of a CVO which I completely understand.

They have one Night Train... but has nothing on it completely stock.

Next to it is a silver FXDI with quick remove windscreen, forward controls, screaming eagle stage one & pipes with less then 6k in miles. All of that & still less then the bone stock Night Train. I think the math here is easy.

I buy the dyna happy as hell rode it home ... 2 & 1/2 hours with a smile on my face still to this day.

On a side note... after a few trips down to the dealer I see my sporty parked out front and a girl on it. I tell her nice bike shes all happy said she bought it that way all for 14K.

If your curious I paid 10K for the Dyna out the door.

Well at the Dealership I work at has had a Custom Motorcycle shop for almost 10yrs, sold Ironhorse, Big Dog, Victory and many used bikes. We first took my 06 Street Bob in during the spring of 2008, it was sold used with 2,200 miles on it and completely stock. The man who bought it rode it a year, pust a few miles on it and traded it for a used Harley Ultra we had, and on the Street Bob he put on the exact same pipes, intake, and power comander that I would've put on, also painted the bars, lower front forks, wider rear tire and lay down flat plate frame with new turn signal covers. When I heard we got the bike back in I looked at, the very next day the owner of the dealership announced he was closing the Motorcycle store and that no reasonable offer would be refused. I won't say the exact price I paid for it but it may make some of your hearts skip a beat or two, and by the way we still have a few Big Dog bikes left going for under half the price of when they were new.
