Like you I've been riding for a long time and I've had 5 other Jap bikes. When I went looking for a Harley, out of all the models I kept going back to the FXDC in black. I like the little extra chrome. All I did was put on Screamin Eagle pipes, chrome bullet headlight, Buffalo 6" T bars, curved licence bracket, relocated the front signals to the pinch bolts on the fork and SAC leather hand grips. The bike is great just like that and is a lot of fun to ride. As soon as the sun comes out I'll update the picture of it on here and away we go. You won't be sorry with FXDC.
I am planning on buying my first bike in November/December and am looking at the Super Glides. Is there any real advantage over the base SG, or are the differences mainly cosmetic?
I am learning as I go here, so please bear with me!

Mollydoll,
In my opinion the biggest "advantage" is the speedo location on the models other than the base FXD.
It is located on the tank with the models other than the the Base FXD and not on the handle bar. It is a cosmetic difference however.
Also, If you ever plan on putting any of the chrome parts ie: chrome engine package, wheels, etc... from the FXDC on the FXD you will save money buy getting the FXDC as the parts and labor will cost you more to purchase through the catalog and service deptartment than the difference in price between the two models.
Cheers,
Tom

Great feed back continues, thanks! I'm not ready yet to pull the trigger, got some non bike related wheeling & dealing to take care of first, hope to be able to do it before the end of August. Might be able to make a better deal on a '09 then as well.
You can't go wrong with any Dyna. I've been riding Scooters since 1964. Yeah I know I'm one of the older guys. But I must say my latest 09 FXDC seems like the best bang for the buck I've ever had. Just get a Scooter and make it your own by 'customizing' to your hearts content.
