did you install the bearings in the wheels or did they come pre installed? believe it or not there is a difference depending on which bearing gets installed first...its very small but can make a difference. i think its the rotor side bearing that gets pressed in first. maybe its possible its off just that much if you need shims for the rotor.
I guess that is possible.
I payed the local Indy to put the bearings in and mount the tire.
bberck, what kind of shims did you use? I am having the same problem on my '08 FXSTC. I went with solid chrome wheel and HD chrome floating rotor 44359-00 and chrome wheel spacer kit. The rotor is touching the inside of brake caliper bracket. Also there is a gap between the outside spacer and the rotor., like the gap needed for the shim? I see that HD sells a hub for the FXSTD model. Wonder if I should use that? Any ideas or recommendations? Joe

My Indy had a couple old ones he had laying around that he gave me. I had to make the axle hole bigger to go over the lip on my wheels but they looked just like the ones HD sells for the Duece so I would guess that you could make that one work. I had to use 2 so may pick up more than one.
Ummmmm, I got it figured out. The rotor side bearing was not seated all the way in the hub. It was about 1/8th too shallow. Those bearings were part of an HD rear wheel install kit and they were a real Bear to get installed. I had to go rent removal tool and use it other than intended and pick up a new bearing. the new bearing went in much easier. Now I wonder of those bearings in the kit were a little out of spec. As soon as I installed the new bearing I knew it was better. Reassembled and all is good. What a job this turned into. But the new wheel looks awesome.
