What's the big deal with the HD adapters? I use the Yellow Craftsman aluminum jack and have no issues with the HD adapters or stability. My bike has been up in the air for the last month and no issues and I have rolled it all over the place too.
I understand the Red jack needs some modifications because it does not sit as low and wide as the Yellow jack but I don't think the HD adapters are crap. They do what they were designed to do, level the bike on a proper jack. I don't think they should be labeled as crap because of the jack's limitations.
Don't get me wrong though, if after doing this modification to the Red jack, you no longer need the HD adapters, then that's a good bonus.
There's nothing wrong with the adapters if you want to use them (debatable). However, some people, myself included, do the mod to lift the Dyna's without the adapters. Has nothing to do with the jacks limitations.
Hey brother I just came across the mod for the craftsman lift. I'm trying to figure out wich bolts are safe. I went to the mans Walmart "home depot" and they had zinc galvanized and stainless. Which do I need? They didn't seem to have info on the grade? Also only about an inch of the bolts were actually threaded is that ok?
Go to a real hardware store. as far as how much is threaded, an inch or so should be fine. You just want to snug it up not too tight or the pads will bind and the jack won't work correctly.
notice the color? You can also tell by the marking on the head of the bolt.
Went with stainless bolts. They said they were real strong? Lets hope. Tried without first and I can see what everyone is talking about. Good jack though. Now to paint the shocks. Just the stability alone is worth it. Not to mention day bye bye to those god forsaken HD lift accessories.
