Nice work! I pretty much did the same thing though I used metric bolts so didn't need to drill out any holes. I also cut a notch in that front support bar to clear the jiffy stand spring attach point.
I did the same thing on my Harbor Freight yellow jack but it still needs to be shimmed to allow for the plate that hangs down on the one side. Wish it worked as easy as you Seats jack!
I did this mod today - and the jack fits my '08 Fat Bob snugly but works.
FuzzyHead619's welded cross members are a sweet improvement. Alas, I don't have a welder.
I used Grade 8 6" bolts and 1/2" nylon spacers. Without the 1/2 spacers this would not clear the oil pan or the jiffy stand.
Thanks Vic for the great mod!
I got the jack on sale for $107 at Sears today, plus they were running a 5% coupon which took it down to around 101. With the Grade 8 hardware, my cost was $125 total with tax.
Ground down the "nubs" and shot it with some primer and rustoleum black.
Welcome to the fear stand/lift..... use straps and support your bike and dont be dave.
that's right, dont be like dave ! dave will always strap it down from now on. its a horrible blood curly noise when that bike jumps off the fear lift and hits the concrete floor , still having nightmares :-)
Did the 'mod' and still can't get it under the bike as easily as the O.P. does. Have to hold the bike up and then somehow check the 'lifting pads' are clear of the jiffy stand. P.I.T.A....b.
I did the Sears mod on the Harbor Freight jack and added 1/2 inch spacers. I put a 3/4" board under the kick stand and the jack just squeaks in missing the pan and the kickstand. It's a little fiddly getting the jack positioned just right fore and aft but then it lifts the bike just great.
Well after seeing Vic's ( SC ) YouTube vids , looks like I'll be modding my yellow jack - I should have just bought a red one . But what's done is done . And hopefully pull the trigger on an a J&S in the summer .
Nice work! I pretty much did the same thing though I used metric bolts so didn't need to drill out any holes. I also cut a notch in that front support bar to clear the jiffy stand spring attach point.
I don't feel like drilling out any holes either. Do you know what sized metric bolts & spacers you used?
