Dont know if the twin cam is the same as the evo, but on mine, when you line up the cam timing gear, crank and breather gear, neither of the pistons is at TDC.

Then by my advice, you're golden.

I've built several car motors and haven't ever made the valve-to-piston contact, but the first time I don't make that check is the time I'll be off a tooth or three and bend a valve.

Appreciate the ease of mind, Paul. I'll see if I can't get this back together and rumbling. If not today, it'll be towards the end of the week before I can hear the thump-thump-thump again.

I pulled the cam plate back out to double check I had everything lined up.

I made my own jig to keep the cams square using a scrap 2x4.

The cam ends are 1" dia., spaced 1" apart. 3" from outside to outside.

I got the cam plate and pushrods reinstalled. Started on the rear rocker but then I got the call to come home for dinner. Didn't finish that.

You come up with clever solutions, Vic.

I got the motor buttoned up today but not before snapping one of the cam cover bolts (1st pic). I seriously lucked out that it didn't snap inside the case.

Reinstalled my exhaust (2nd pic). Black head pipes / Chrome collector and heat shields. I kind of like it. I think it was Paul who suggested that. Good thinking, Paul.

All I have left is to reinstall the tank, download the map I got from Fuelmoto and moreorless fire it up (fingers crossed).

I'll definitely follow the suggestion from Don of firing it without plugs to test the oil pump / pressure first.

This has been a really cool experience.

Did you cross thread or over torque that bolt?

Neither. I was torquing to minimum value (125 in/lbs) and about half way through it just snapped.

I did go back and clean the threads up with a tap ( 1/4 x 20) on each hole just to be safe. Also did each bolt using proper die (1/4 x 20)
