Think that was a bit of over-zealousness on my part. Instead of doing it in stages, I just tried torquing to 125 in/lbs. First bolt was fine...then the second one snapped. I made sure to do it in stages after I found a replacement bolt...40 / 80 / 125.
Oh, well, anytime you have a large flat surface with multiple bolts you should torque in a pattern and 2 or 3 stages, otherwise you do run the risk of warpage.
Of course on that lite of torque, you wouldn't think you would need to, but it's always a safe practice.
So ... did you get the tank on and fire that bad boy up ...? I'm dying to hear a run report ....
I ordered my gasket kit ... also ordered a S&S crankcase breather valve that goes outboard (I believe) of the oil pump on the end of the crankshaft ... supposed to significantly reduce the air pressure that forces oil into the head breathers ... and into the intake ....
Decided to hold off on ordering the special tools ... saw a video where a guy used his oven and freezer to 'size' the cams, bearings and cam plate to obviate the necessity of the hydraulic press ... I'm trying to conceptualize how to de-tension the cam chain tensioners ... I'll think of something I suppose ....
Now ... get crackin' and finish up your cam job ... give us (me) some inspiration ....
No, Chop. I'm chompin at the bit just as you to hear / feel it run. Today was a gimme because my girl stayed home from work which meant I could go work on it. I think the next time I'll be wrenching is friday or saturday.
Not sure if your '05 is the same as my '07 but the outside chain tensioner was held on by (2) T-27 torx bolts. I just unbolted them from the cam plate. The inner chain tensioner was (2) allen bolts. Again, just unbolted them.
