I heard if you change it every 500 miles it will last as long as a Jap bike.

I guess you only run Syn3 or the stock Harley fluid since that's what Harley told you to do in the manual?

I'll keep "wasting" my money as well. My bike ain't complaining. Some people spend more on a pack of cigarettes than the cost of the fluid we are talking about.

I wish I could ride 30K miles a year. Saddly I only get 10-12K per year myself. RG=4.5K, WG=2K, Vmax=1.5K, ZX11=1.5K, KLX=1K, Zuma= 500 miles.

To the original poster,
As other have said, a good synthetic 75-90 has worked well for me in the tranny too.

I hope so, when I sold my 2000 GSXR 750 in 07 it had 80k miles on it. I changed the oil every 500-1000 miles using plain jane Castrol GTX 10w 40 auto oil. It ran like a champ when I sold it, the only thing I noticed was it seemed the transmission got a tad bit notchy in its old age. Other than that I beat the ever living crap out of it. It rarely saw a normal day, mostly all mountain runs, tached out in the first 4 gears and sometimes 6th although rare.

Yea, the royal purple definitely makes the shifting smoother than what was already in there. I'm actually glad this happened.

Nope I run Mobil 1 20W50. I'm just saying, it is not neccessary to change it before the recommended intervals. While we are at it it is not necessary for me to run Mobil 1 20w50 either, I like to waste my money on it and you like wasting money swapping it out too soon.
Both of our bikes aren't complaining so we should be fine.

Oh and I only get to put between 10,000 - 12,000 a year on mine so mine isn't rode as much as I'd like either MrMax.
