it's almost 8 years old with less than 1k on the clock... I would either have it checked out by a mechanic (or check it yourself if you're mechanically inclined) and make sure everything is in good running order... you'll have to change plugs, wires, oil, filter, battery (probably) and maybe a few other things. see if you can take it for a test ride beforehand... I love my wide glide, so i'm sure you'll enjoy it!
Average retail for the fuel injected model (according to the NADA) is $9420
for the carburated model $9085
The NADA does not take mileage into account, but IMHO I would offer $8500 and see where it goes. It's a buyers market.
Check the front end for play, make sure it is tight. The 05's had a valve seal issue, not a big deal though and not sure if it also affected the 04's.
I agree I would offer 8500 also and see what he counters with.
Should be a great bike, I have 40k+ on my 05 and she still runs like a top with an all stock motor.
Thanks for the help. I'll check out the front end, I understand that's were the famous death wobble comes from.
I have checked out NADA and KBB on price and I"m not sure what I'd like to pay for this bike. I've had experience with buying low millage vehicles in the past and for the most part they ended up costing me more then buying new.
I'm on the fence with this one.
Lots of pros and cons.. I'll have to see it first.
I would also consider new tires ,front and rear. Is the mileage on the odometer or tripmeter? The carb or injectors could be gummed up if the gas wasn't treated and replaced periodically. If the response from the owner is that the gas was drained then the concern would be rust scale in the tank or dry gaskets in the carb. The bike will take a little work to make it road worthy, the $8500.00 or a little less would be a starting point.
I took a look at the bike today. It has custom foot pegs, custom air breather cover, and side plate, leather bag on front, leather lace on brake and clutch leavers, and he has all of the stock parts. Plus more stuff to go with it.
He offered it to for nine grand and I passed on it. I think I might have messed up. It looks like a brand new bike. It's never seen rain or been ridden out of town.
