I just bought a set of barebacks cv-145 for my 09fxdc w/ detach backrest. I read and followed the instructions and everything went good until I went to align the barebacks. I have the female mounts on the bags pointing down per instructions and its just not going. I have noticed that my rear docking point is not parallel with my front mount-it points slightly back and has been like this since day one. I searched on here and have found a few others with docking alignment issues but have not seen a cure for this. I'm sure this is part of the problem with the barebacks not lining up. Any tips would be appreciated to make these work( barebacks=expensive)
I've been wanting a set of these for a long time but I'm always hesitant. Could you post some pics of the (mis)alignment?
When you initially set them up, aren't you supposed to leave them a little lose, line everything up then tighten them? Shouldn't that lock them in place for future removal/re-install?

I tried this after I posted this thread yesterday. Left the mounts inside the bag loose then put them on the bike. Had to "hammer them" a little like mentioned in post #2. Tightened them up and they were"on"-only problem was they would not come off without loosening the hardware inside the bags(defeats the purpose of quickon/off).
I really think its my bike and not the barebacks at fault. My rear docking point points slightly to the rear of the bike and is not parallel to the front docking point. This would make the center to center wider than 10.5 inches. I will try to shim the back point and see if it will straighten up a bit.
Update- Shimmed the rear fender area to straighten the rear docking point. I installed two 1/2" washers between rear fender and black frame rail(under chrome cover on fxdc models). I then tossed the chrome tear drop cover and used a 1/2" split washer the same thickness as teardrop, followed by docking hardware and then male bareback mount. Finally the docking point is straight off the bike(parallel with front docking point). Made a small adjustment with the barebacks and they now go on/off without tools in about a few seconds per side. They still go on pretty snug, but definetly workable. The only drawback was the hole in the chrome frame cover where the chrome teardrop cover was- but not a big deal for me.
